I played and loved the first Professor Layton, and I have the second to do.  Im a sucker for time travel so I should be hankering for the third.  However on the horizon is the 3DS version which I seriously want to enjoy.

Problem is, I think if I do 3 of them before I get there Ill be sick of the format.

Have you ever skipped games not because you are burnt out on a particular genre of series, but because you fear you will be, once you are done?

Only on the ones where previous games don't matter. For example you can skip System Shock 1 and go right on to System Shock 2, but you can't do the same with Metal Gear Solid.

If the story isn't one long continuous one then I'll just skip ahead to the one with the best scores.

I typically only play every second or third Ratchet & Clank to avoid getting sick of them.
