I don't get it. What is the purpose in locking a topic that doesn't have something, like, illegal in it? If someone's not endangering the community or spamming... what's the purpose of closing "troll" topics or whatever?

Are moderators so afraid of people getting their feelings hurt and engaging in stupid conversations? Does regulation of speech actually improve the conversation on here? It just makes for a bunch of insular, easily-offended freaks to gather together and talk like robots.

Why do you choose to be offended? When has ignorance of a touchy discussion ever served you well? Putting your fingers in your ears and softly crying is fucking sad. Grow up and ignore them, letting them burn themselves out, or argue better than they can.

To choose ignorance, to ban those with controversial things to say is just... super-pussy.

So, really, other than attacking me, does anyone have anything to say about why moderation of your words is a good thing to have? When have thought police ever been the proper choice in a community?

We have forums rules in place to encourage users to be respectful, and discourage flaming or trolling. We also crack down on spam topics or topics with little to no substance because they clog up the forums and only prevent users from finding more interesting discussions to participate in. We're not afraid of people getting their feelings hurt, but users should be able to reasonably participate in discussions on this site without feeling like they're always going to be aggressively mocked or flamed by other users.

If you have criticisms about moderation actions on the forums, making a thread like this is not the way to go about it. Instead, you should contact us or Ethan, who oversees our actions.
