Importing an ME2 Character for NG+

When I import a character from ME2 (for newgame+) does it take the character from the latest autosave, or from when I completed the game? In other words, if I continued playing after finishing the game, doing side missions, will that work be wasted? 

No, you choose which save you want to import of your character. Whether it be the last autosave or save 32 of you on some random planet
