Hey giantbomb community, I have been driving myself crazy trying to remember a PS2 fighter that I vaguely remember. One of the key things that stands out of my mind is the graphic design, it was mostly bright Persona 4 yellow with diamond shapes for everything, fighter portraits, timer, and etc. It was a 2D sprite based game, with full 3D backgrounds. I want to say it was a Street Fighter or Capcom produced. It was definitely on the PS2 . So if you can figure this out, you will get one special virtual high five coming your way.

The only 2d fighters with 3d backgrounds that were on PS2 were the Capcom vs SNK games (not including SVC Chaos), KOF Neowave, Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, and The Rumble Fish.

I don't recall any yellow motif much but if there was one game that's closest to what you described, it's Capcom vs. SNK 2.
