Don't want to start a fire with this as it also is my first post but I was wondering why are most of the quicklooks on X360 and not on PS3 or maybe provide a short video comparison of the two versions when doing a video of a game that is out on both consoles?

If there is already a thread about this then please point me to that thread as I have already searched "PS3 Quicklooks" and nothing came up.

1. Publishers usually send them the 360 versions.

2. The differences are almost always negligible and there are many other sites that do in-depth comparsions already, like Digital Foundry and Lens of Truth.

I think they don't bother doing comparisons because it's still fairly uncommon to own an Xbox 360 and a PS3. Yes, if somebody is really into gaming they own both, but there's so much overlap that there's only a couple key series you're missing if you only own one. A lot of times for review purposes, they will play both versions, and Jeff (or whoever) will try to mention if there's any significant framerate issues or whatever in one of the versions.

However, they have done Xbox 360/PC combo Quick Looks for a couple of games like a year ago, but I get the feeling they decided it wasn't worth the effort. Offhand, I think they did it for Dragon Age 2, as well as Crysis 2. Also, they've done completely separate Quick Looks for the 360 and PC version on occasion (Borderlands and Dragon Age: Origins).

SaturdayNightSpecials hit the nail on the head with his first bulletpoint. Publishers tend to send out 360 copies of the game, so that's what we see. That said, there have been plenty of high profile third party games that they get the PS3 version instead - Assassin's Creed comes to mind. I've also heard that it's a little bit easier for them to record the 360 versus the PS3, though that was a long time ago, so I don't know how true that is now.

No they aren't. Not even Jeff chases achievements much anymore, and as far as I know Brad and Vinny never cared about them.

And their console preference has nothing to do with what version they record video of, unless they don't get a copy of the game and have to buy one.

4. The method to transfer save files to other machines is allot more user friendly on the 360

No more horror stories of hauling the entire 2,5 KG device to the office for a single 30 min video, things might be better on ps3 side with PS+ perhaps but i believe Jeff is the only one who uses that(?)

For someone who owns both consoles it can obviously be very useful to see which version looks and runs better.

There are sites that specialise in that sort of thing, GB doesn't have to be a one stop site for all your gaming needs. I don't think anyone at GB is that interested in the comparison and them doing features they are not invested in just leads to negative boring coverage.

In most cases it gets very technical and ends up with you squinting and pixel counting just to tell the difference.

Well Vinny doesn't. But Brad definitely does.....as a challenge. Just look at the Breaking Brad videos. They are all about Brad hunting dumb achievements.

@MaxOpower: They're all about brad freaking out and everyone trolling him.

That they happen to be about hard achievements is a coincidence; it just so happens that's more or less the only place to find backbreaking challenges in games (discounting things like Dark Souls which he'd never touch). I'd imagine that any painful challenge in a game he liked would suffice, achievement or not.

@Mirado:

backbreaking challenges. Well isn't that what (Some) achievements are about. If you care about beating the challenge, then don't you also care about getting the achievement.

@MaxOpower: Sure, that's what some achievements are about. But difficulty is not exclusive to them.

Using that logic, Brad should have a massive gamerscore if he cares about achievements enough to get the ones that take 4 hours of livestreaming to get. It's clear that he doesn't. They use hard achievements as the basis of Breaking Brad because it's a conveniently and concretely defined goal, but he's not doing it to get an achievement. He's doing it for comedy; at the end of the day I doubt he cares that his gamerscore went up by 100 points or whatever.

Jeff used to be the score fiend; his collection of import games and Japanese Xboxes should be proof that he was WAY more crazy about that then Brad, and even he's stopped caring.

People saying that video comparisons between the two platforms are dumb, are themselves, dumb.

If it weren't for them comparisons people wouldn't be able to see just how terrible Bayonetta is on PS3 compared to 360. Fallout 3 was also pretty terrible.

@Sooty Exactly. GB shouldn't do them since there are other sites more well equipped for that but they are certainly important. Sometimes the 360 version is better and sometimes the PS3 version is better and owners of those platforms seek out those comparisons for purchasing advice because most reviews on gaming sites tend to copy and paste their review of one version onto the other. Look at Mass Effect 3 for a recent example, it runs like shit on the PS3 yet no major mention of that in any of the reviews leading up to it's launch.
