Time capsules and the games we put inside them.

I've been thinking a lot about game preservation, what with the Xbox One not supporting backwards compatibility with XBLA games. It's given me a lot of anxiety about what will happen to exclusives like Shadow Complex, Geometry Wars, and ilomilo, and also about preservation of video games in general. Anyway, here's the five games made in the last 10 years I would choose for preservation in a 100-year time capsule.

1. Bastion (Because it's just that good)
2. Batman: Arkham Asylum (Just to let people know that Batman was just as popular then as he is now...or not.)
3. Borderlands (The future will obviously resemble this game in 100 years, right?)
4. Mass Effect (I feel like this one would spark a retro interest in games like no other game would.)
5. Sid Meier's Civilization [Revolution or Five] (I feel like revolution would be better for mushy-minded future children, but Civ V is a much better and a much deeper game)

If you could put five games and the means to play them in a 100-year time capsule, what would they be?

I'd put actual iconic games in there.

1. FarmVille
2. Bejeweled
3. World of Warcraft
4. RuneScape
5. Osmos

Is this like the digital locker?

1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

2. Call of Duty: World at War

3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

4. Call of Duty: Black Ops

5. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Civ 5 for sure.

That way I don't have to give up all my other games and that game is just keeping me from playing those games at the moment.
Super long games are the best!

And then just 4 garbage games for the rest
Halo 3, Gears of War 1. E.T and.. I don't know.. Pong?

Mario, Tetris, that sorta thing cus you can't send back Mass Effect, they'd be like "what?!" i mean after the apocalypse you gotta send them the building blocks of video games first!

Geometry Wars and Ilomilo are both actually on PC now too. Shadow Complex, however ;___;

Anyway:

• Crysis - So, people can look back at laugh at what we used to consider "good graphics".
• Amnesia - I think it's important to terrify future generations...
• World of Warcraft - Although, I suppose that would be very hard to showcase accurately.
• BioShock Infinite - This is what people from 100 years ago, thought of people from 100 years prior.
• Minecraft - Actually, swap this with Crysis; let's tell people that this was the best graphics we could possibly produce back then.

Y'know, just to really fuck with those wacky future folk. I mean, I'll be alive then anyway, because I will have obtained immortality during a supernatural basketball game with the gods, so I can be there to laugh at the frazzled and confused wreck of a person what played all o' those games in succession.
