I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue yet. My 360 plays other games just fine, but when I put Alan Wake in the tray, I'm just prompted to open the tray back up. Making no mention that Alan Wake was even in the system.

And please, save your rabid fanboyism about how the 360 sucks. Nobody wants to hear it.

It's because of people like you that it happens, stop asking for it -.-...

But that only happened once on one of my older 360s and I think it was DMC4 and then never again.
All I did back then was check to see if the disc was filled with fingerprints.
In the end I just cleaned the disc and that helped, not sure it's gonna work for you though.

Nope.  I'm sure you can get a replacement for it, I mean, if you want to replace that copy you got.

I've been using a rental disc and that worked fine, no problems.

If you can, try and play the disc in another 360 and see if it works.  It is probably just a dodgy disc but might wanna check that before you take it back in case your 360 drive is acting up.

Yeah, It's clean as a whistle. Worked on the 5th or 6th try. What a pain. Hopefully it won't continue to be a trend.

It's stuff like this that REALLY makes me wish day-and-date releases went right to Games on Demand. Eff discs. EFF THEM!

@schizogony:  I agree. I know that the 360 is a pretty shoddy piece of technology, so I'd like the option to bypass discs if I know my device is going to prevent me from playing a game. Plus, we wouldn't have to wait for retail stores to open their doors. Downloading with my morning coffee would be a wonderful thing.

The retail stores will fight us to the bitter end.

Most likely your laser is starting to act up, it has happened to me on an older X-Box 360.

I'd love to see a firmware update wherein the HD DVD drive could also read game discs (even if just to install the game, provided the USB connection was not enough for the bandwidth of the game).

This would solve a lot of problems for people with disc read errors.

I think I may be having a similar issue. I just bought the game and it is perfectly clean looking. My copy does read, but very poorly. It keeps crashing my xbox,  and disc drive is running really loud ( louder than normal ). None of my other discs seem to have any trouble. I am going to try installing it to the hd.
