A real sport should be able to be played by everyone.  Hence Football.

I am American and I am VERY excited that the World Cup is here! I got into watching football 4 years ago and that World Cup was what got me hooked. Then I started watching club football when the passing of George Best was being covered by Fox Soccer Channel. I love all football, from the World Cup, to the MLS and beyond!

Yes, it's the best sports competition the world over.
I wouldn't be too bothered about those that aren't interested, their loss.
 
Maybe the light will come in several decades.
