I decided to post this in OT instead of the buckethead forum because I thought it'd get more exposure from the many people who don't know who this incredibly talented guitarist is. Bear with me if the video doesn't post right...

He's talented at playing the guitar but he can't write a meaningful song to save his life. You have to ask, which is better: technical skill or artistic skill? I opt for art.

Buckethead is really amazing, whether he can write songs or not, he knows how to play a guitar.

If you want to talk about technical skill and absolutely no artistic skill, go watch a dragonforce vid or something. Buckethead is an artist, and you don't need lyrics to call yourself an artist.

Buckethead is awesome. The song Soothsayer has been stuck on my mind for a long time now. I heard it long before it came to Guitar Hero 3, so I was thrilled when it was up for download. Sadly I suck at GH, so cannot play it on a fun difficulty :P
But that song shows that he isn't just a good guitarist, he is also a superb songwriter. That song is... beautiful. Simply put.

This is a pretty apt response.

It isn't that Buckethead fails on an artistic level, but his modes of avant-garde virtuosity range so fluently, and tremble so vibrantly on many different levels.  I'd be willing to argue that Buckethead is the most soulful of contemporary guitar virtuosos, following the lead of players like Steve Vai and Paul Gilbert.

Anyway, I'm quite proud of the Buckethead page.

I've only seen the guy play live twice.  The last time, this past June, he actually played "Jordan", the song in Guitar Hero II.

Dragonforce can't even "play" what they "make"
