Did I just get a free album from Amazon?
Ok, so I was trying to buy an album from Amazon's MP3 store. I downloaded the client, and used "Buy the album with one click" option. All of the sudden, the album started downloading in the client. Once it finished, I placed the songs into Itunes, then my Ipod, and I closed Amazon.
Apparently, the only credit card I had on file with Amazon (I hadn't used them for a while previous to this) was an expired Visa that I used back in High School. I received an email saying that my payment was declined and therefore my order canceled; I was then instructed to re-order the item once I had a "Valid method of payment" , if I wished to "Still purchase the item."
I think that they failed to realize that their client ALREADY gave me the entire album; not only that, but it automatically made a copy of each of the songs, so I now have two copies of the album sitting on my hard drive, and Amazon doesn't seem to realize this. A similar thing happened a while back when I downloaded Grizzly Bear's "Veckatimest" album through Amazon's daily deal at 3.99. The same card was charged, declined, and Amazon sent me a vague email telling me that if I wished to still purchase the item, I should update my payment options....again, despite their client already having downloaded all of the songs onto my PC.
Could this be a loop-hole in their system? Typically I use Itunes with paypal to purchase music, so my savings account is automatically withdrawn, but with this, I'm honestly a bit confused.
At any rate, I really like Amazon for buying music, their customer service is really good too. This one time I purchased a censored version of Mellow Gold by accident, so I sent an e-mail to complain how it wasn't really clear that it was the censored version. About 10 minutes later I got an e-mail from them saying they were sorry and that my 10 bucks were refunded. How great is that.
