G.I Joe or Transformers?

TRANSFORMERS! TRANSFORMERS! TRANSFORMERS! G.I Joe wasn't a thing in the UK though.

I loved Transformers when I was a kid. I didn't get into G.I. Joe until I was older. As somebody who grew up with G1 for the most part it doesn't really hold up. Beast Wars has stood the test of time much better. The old 80's G1 comics are still pretty cool, especially the Marvel UK comics.

Wasn't Beast Wars one of the first CGI kids shows? The graphics blew me away when I first saw it, but I can't imagine it holds up now. Still, Optimus Primal was a pretty badass name.

This isn't even close; Transformers all the way.

Also, Decepticons > Autobots.

Eh, G.I. Joe is pretty cool, but nothing compared to Transformers.

And just quietly, that first third of the bombcast relating to 80's toys was magnificent :)

GI Joe across the board, if anyone picks Transformers because of the recent movies they need to be shunned a la Grown Ups 2 fans.

Yep. You could have some pretty great hand to hand combat with those toys.

Yeah, I probably should have specified that I meant story wise Beast Wars holds up better than G1. G1 with its hand drawn animation has definitely aged better as far as visuals go.

Agreed. You could do way more with GI Joe toys. I liked Transformers a lot, but nothing came close to GI Joe for me.

The two cartoons were on a more level field, though. Both cartoons were the bomb.

Transformers they always held the belt in the "toy wrestling federation" I created with my toys when I was little. That's right when I was a kid I created TWF belts using a little bit of artwork and band-aids.

@aquablak: Sounds like we're on the same page. I think I preferred the Transformers cartoon to GI Joe one but again the toys trump all that extra stuff.

I have a brother who is four years older than me and a brother who is four years younger than me so we had a lot of stuff - from HAL to BUGG.

The Bombcast had me trying to look up names and pictures of old Transformers I had. I had 3 city sized ones, but couldn't tell you which was the biggest.

If I had to pick I'd pick Transformers. But I never really cared for either.

I've just noticed that in the background Transformers are getting disintegrated. Dark.

Was about to vote Transformers, then you had to say best franchise reboot.

I like both but Transformers is way above Joe for me in all aspects save one, the toys.

In the 80's, Transformers had two, maybe three good years but G.I. Joe had a longer run of good stuff and more stuff out in that time.

Man, just about nothing beat getting a new vehicle. Jeff's crazy, the Flagg was awesome. Yes it was too big to actually move around but it was meant to be a playset, and it was a hell of a good one. I've still got one and all these years later it's still pretty impressive.

I stayed away from both franchises when I was a kid, but if were talking about the reboot films, no question is Transformers better.

From G1 to Beasties (Beast Wars in Canada), Transformers rocked rather hard. Hell, the 1986 movie is still fantastic.

That being said, in terms of toys, the GI JOEs were some of the most versatile contraptions on the planet. You could do a hell of a lot with them, provided you're not a psychopath who seeks joy in melting plastic effigies of people.

Screw all that, I was lucky enough to grow up with Dino Riders.

GI Joe, but only the 3 inch figures. I have so many of those (and the ripoff brand Corps!) and I played with them everyday for years.

GI Joe or Action Force as they were called over here. I never really liked Transformers, even as a kid. Wonder where I put all my old toys. I had a Croc Master, but lost the crocodile. Mom thinks our neighbor ran it over with his lawnmower.

I used to love dino riders, but with the perspective of age, all I can do is feel sorry for the poor dinosaurs.

All they want to do is have fun :(

I grew up watching Transformers and they were my favourite toy and TV franchise when I was a kid.

As I was born in the UK I don't remember seeing much if any G.I. Joe stuff. I do remember seeing a lot of G.I. Joe toy commercials in the Transformers VHS tapes I had.

G.I.Joe, Starscream? This is bad comedy.

Transformers only because I used to watch them when I was little and have never seen GI Joe, but every time the GB crew talks about Joe I get all excited to watch the show at some point, sounds hilariously bad.

I never watched either show, but I had a ton of G.I.Joe action figures as a kid. I suppose that wins out by default? Closest thing to transformers I was into was Beast Wars.

I'm more of a ninja turtles kind of guy anyway.
