Hey guys I've got Glass and have had it for like a day now. If you have any questions feel free to ask! At some point I'll upload some photos taken with it and maybe a video or something.

What made you want one? (Not in a mean way, I'm just genuinely curious)

@drebin_893: An unyielding nerd boner. I was left money a long time ago to use for college tuition, but I have a full ride to my university so i figured why not?

Does it feel weird on your face? Does it take getting used to? Do people think you're an evil, spyey robot and give you nasty looks?

Please tell me there's an app that lets you see through thick fog.

#7 Posted by slyspider (1329 posts) -

@counterclockwork87: I do get some weird looks and people do ask me about it. I don't ever go into bathrooms with it on as that makes me feel dirty. It is slightly heavier than normal glasses and did take some getting used to as far as my eyes looking up and to the right, something that I'm not used to. As time goes on others with glass have told me it gets normalized though but I cant say yet

@chaser324: This is something i need to look into... for science.

@video_game_king: Not yet, I've heard Vinco is on the case though.

I have an open invite to buy one, but $1500 is a little steep for what would basically be a mildly-amusing toy for me.

I have messed around for a while with the one that we have at my Android development job, though, in case we ever decide to develop for it for some reason. It sort of confirmed my initial impressions about it; until Glass apps become more widespread, its current uses are limited to mostly trivial trivial things that don't go very far beyond what I can already do with my phone, and without the added social awkwardness.

I'm excited about the future of it, but right now, it sort of feels like buying a Laserdisc player in the early '80s.

What have you used it for most so far and what do you see yourself using it for most in the future?

So far I've been voice texting a lot while I'm not around other people, talking to myself makes me feel weird around people. I plan on texting a ton as using it completely hands free is insane. The video/picture aspect is pretty awesome as well for spring break next week

Pretty bummed that I got invited into the glass explorer's program (or w/e it is called) but couldn't afford it. I guess that means my question is, do you think it it worth the money? (at least for you)

Don't feel bad, when it goes commercial its going to be much cheaper and more refined. I got in as well, and while I could have afforded it, I just couldn't justify paying that kind of money for a device with as limited functionality as Glass.

not really, as a tech guy its pretty freaking awesome. I suppose its what it felt like to be one of the first people around you to have a cell phone. But yeah, if money is even remotely an issue dont even think about it. The public version should be close hardware wise, but much cheaper

#23 Posted by BigJeffrey (5139 posts) -

Hee my comment probably came off a bit assholish but anyways does it have voice command? I'd take weird pictures that would seen impossible to the viewer like holding a phone in front of me.

@bigjeffrey: Everything I've seen has a voice control option.

Do people see what you are looking at from the outside? I need to know this for uh.

Reasons.

Tumblr Butts.

Do people get freaked out by the potential intrusion-into-privacy thing? You've basically got a video camera ready at a moment's notice every time you wear this thing, I can't imagine everyone being totally okay with that.

#28 Posted by SharkEthic (1062 posts) -

Have you been in any fist fights because of you wearing them yet? And if so how many, was the camera on and did you win?

#29 Posted by slyspider (1329 posts) -

@tobbrobb: You can see a light, and if your close you can see the tiny image of what they are seeing backwards

@deadmoscow: Yes people do get worried. There is a 10$ cover for the camera I'm planning on getting so avoid people being weird around me, all things considering I completely understand, with a nod and blink, I can take a pic without anyone able to tell.

@sharkethic: While you comment is obviously a joke, wearing 1.5 thousands dollars of tech on my head does make me feel a little unsafe. No fist fights yet, if I do ill record it for you

#30 Posted by datarez (569 posts) -

What apps are available for it? Is it just AR Yelp style stuff?

Have people figured out how to side load all the photo recognition/profile searching stuff that google banned yet?

Thanks for sharing.

#31 Edited by SharkEthic (1062 posts) -

@slyspider: While my comment was, obviously, a joke, it's rooted in reality. And in all seriousness, be safe, dude.

#32 Posted by slyspider (1329 posts) -

@datarez: There are a few apps, and more have been added since I got it yesterday which is weird. They are all free and you go on a webpage or on your phones 'glass' app and download them to the glass. There are lots of workout ones, some game collections, a couple really cool ones like a auto translate that translates what you look at into English or what ever you set it on. Evernote and recipe ones have been very helpful, but I haven't tried the workout ones as I dont work out that much. Yes you can sideload apps on to glass, I haven't yet but I hear its really easy to do. You can watch youtube and use a beta version of the facial recognition software among other things. I think watching youtube will be in the store eventually, but I cant really find a use case for it other than DIY stuff. The facial recognition shit is down right weird and other than maybe getting it to try it on family with their knowledge, I would never ever use it.

@sharkethic Its definitely something I'm concerned about. I don't wear glass if I'm going to be alone or in a bad part of town, thanks for the concern duder! There was already a report of someone getting the shit beat out of them for their glass, but the glass itself has a tracker in it which i don't know if it will be in the full version or not.

On a side note, I live in a smallish town (120,000 people as of last year) in southern Texas so people's reactions to me are probably much stronger than it would be if I lived in San fran or New York. I'm in the process of trying to do stupid pictures that I wouldn't have been able to do without glass, so any suggestions would be helpful.

And on a side side note, as much as people are concerned that I'm recording them or taking pictures without them knowing, I find myself concerned with the fact that glass is always connected to the web through my phone and I'm wearing it most of the time. If someone were to get in this thing, they could see passwords I type, my house code to get in my garage, where I keep everything, ect. I dont think anyone would really be interested in me personally, but it is something on my mind.

Know what would be kind of cool? Hike the entire Appalachian trail and have the video going live stream the whole time. People stuck at work with nothing going on could hike vicariously through you instead of blank staring at walls under fluorescent lights. Truman show, but slightly less creepy.

#35 Posted by slyspider (1329 posts) -

@dogdingus: as long as your phone has internet this could be entirely possible in some app
