How Do You Organize Your Collections?
Doesn't matter what kind of collection, could be video games, music, movies, etc.
For Video Games, I usually go from current favorites to least favorites and keep series' together.
Music I arrange in alphabetical order by band name/artist last name and then try to put their albums in chronological order. Currently trying to decide if I should combine solo artists/side projects with the band that they're usually associated with, what do you guys think?
Movies/TV on DVD I just keep them wherever.
My patience is large and my collection is small, so I just try to keep everything together in no particular order. If it fits, it belongs there.
I have a CD holding shelf, but since I came home I haven't used it. Right now my games live in a shoebox.
Gamecube games lower right, X-Box classics lower left.
Gamecube classics upper right, X-box games upper right.
Games I'm currently playing all over the place.
I place them together by System, and then by favorites for each system. The games I don't like go on the bottom shelf.
games i try to keep in order by series and if im feeling extremely bored...publisher.
everything else i don't care enough about to keep in order.but i keep a handful of cds, that are in my monthly rotation, not in cases just lying on my passenger side seat...yea i don't care about my cds.
My music i keep all similar bands together, dont really care much for alphabetical. For games i just keep a good organized section under my TV stand. On steam i organize my games by 4 categories, indie, singleplayer, multiplayer, and strategy. Only reason i give strategy its own section is because i have so many.
I put them in groups based on there genre, the Steam groups the groups alphabetically and each game in each group is alphabetically aligned based on the individual groups.
I actually did forget to mention I also group my games by System, though I've been a bit lazy about keeping my games organized as of late.
I used to be pretty critical of having everything in alphabetical order and such, but over the years I really dont care. I usually have a pile of games or music that I'm currently using and then just shelves of games/music. Some things like ps1 games or movies really take up a ton of space. All those cases are in storage and the games/movies are in binders.
" Alphabetical for everything. "This. Though with games, I put them in alphabetical piles relating to the console they're on.
" System and alphabetical. An exception is made if it's a sequel. "This.
For music, alphabetical by artist, chronological by album.
Games by platform and alphabetical. Also, the games I'm playing now are on a different shelf closer to the system.
Music alphabetical by artist.
Here's a question: If you have a game with a title, like let's say, "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion", do you file it under "E" or "O"? Or are you crazy and file it under "T"?
My ps3 games are usually all over the place, I throw the like frizbees. My pc games however are neatly put in a bunch of sleves in a metal like box.
Alphabetically grouped by system. The groups of systems are also Alphabetical ie. PS2, PS3, then Xbox 360
When I'm done with a game for the moment and switch, I usually leave the CD on/beside my system, the problem being I tend to have a short attention span and switch games often, leading to less and less space for my CDs. When there's no more room at all is when it's time to clean up. Then the process repeats.
I usually do it alphabetical and chronological (when it comes to video games). So that means I have all my PSX games first, then comes PS2 then PS3; each generation in alphabetical order of course.
Movies depends. Usually I'll put them in alphabetical order like my 1000 DVD collection is actually sorted in genre and then alphabetical. For my blu-rays, of which I don't own nearly as many as I do DVDs, there's no order and I just have them all together.
Hmm. Never really thought to organize my games. I'm not one of those kids who leaves their discs out or puts them all in the wrong cases, but I just always feel like it's a hassle to just get up and grab the game, let alone organize them. That's one of the main reasons I play so many downloadable games. Well, not really... but really.
Oh, and I guess it makes sense for me, because I have to stack my games on top of one-another in two columns. I don't have enough horizontal space to just line them up neatly side-by-side. I'd probably do it alphabetically if that were the case.
