I narrate my creative projects. Normal or no?

I often work in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere. When I'm working at home and alone, I will often talk myself through my process, as if I am narrating a how-to video. I do not, however, do this at work.

"You're going to want to select 'Snap To Grid' here. There we go. Now Snap those horizontal rules to the grid. Perfect. Now we're going to want a little haze around that middle section so come down here to the 'fx' selector and choose 'outer glow'.

Does anyone else do this?

Yeah, I do that. I talk to myself a lot when I'm alone. It's basically thinking aloud.

I've studied this peculiar behaviour for 14 years now. It seems to be a caused by loneliness and rejection from one's peers.

I think you're fucking crazy. Probably a useful habit if you ever want to go into teaching though.

I sometimes pretend to host a cooking show when I make lunch.

Yup. I used to talk to myself all the time, especially during Math homework. It helps you think and logic your way through things.

I do it when I'm putting my make-up on - "Okay so I've done the base with my powder, the next thing is to prime my eyes ready for the shadow and liner..." I blame YouTube for this.

I also do talk to myself a lot of the time, it's apparently a sign of intelligence.

As long as you don't start talking about setting the building on fire you're fine.

Who cares if it's normal? It's what works for you. What does it matter if people find it strange?

It's more normal to care about how you are perceived by others than it is to narrate your activities. Many people care about how others perceive them.

I thought this was about narrating written work for some reason. Probably because I do that. Sometimes when I'm bored and home alone I just go through the countless essays and stories I've written for class, and give them dramatic readings. Then I save the audacity file to some forgotten corner of my hard drive. When I finally sell this computer I plan on leaving them there for the next unfortunate owner to someday discover.

Speaking as a random internet person, I think I have full authority to answer this question for him. His cat was giving him a weird look, so he became self-conscious and started this thread. I'll be gob-smacked if I'm wrong about this.

Sometimes when I'm cooking I narrate myself like I'm on a cooking show. It entertains me. Also when I was younger I would always make sound effects to whatever I was doodling. Like a jet would be ``FWWOOOOOOSSHH!`and a racecar would be `NEEERRROOOWWWW!`and of course everybody`s favourite machine gun sound `THBTHTBTHBTHB`

So yeah. Totally normal.

I violently criticize and insult myself when I'm alone. I can be so mean.
