If there was to be a live action Wolfenstein film, who do you think would be the best fit to play BJ?

Was linked to a Kotaku article about John Cena possibly playing the starring role in a Duke Nukem film. I commented that, if nothing else, he could pull off the look but said he looked more like BJ to me, not that I would cast him in the part. Was curious who all of you thought would be a good fit for the role.

On a side note, it would be really cool if the Duke Nukem movie that is in talks were to make it so Duke still thinks it's the 90s and everyone else pities him. Too bad that will never happen.

I know ppl hate him but Sam Worthington is kinda perfect if he can work on the accent.

Tom Hardy could act the hell out of the role and can get pretty big (see Bronson).

John Cena. Pretty much spot on. Op was right.

Even if he would need to buff up a few pounds I wouldn't mind seeing Joel Edgerton as BJ. He has a bit of a "friendly" face, and can be vulnerable and caring like the modern take on BJ, but can play really intimidating if he has to.

Tom Hardy is a really good choice. I was thinking about... Channing Tatum?

Jon Bernthal could be a good pick if the movie was going for the Wolfenstein (2009) look. He just have to play the same character as the Punisher but killing nazi's and white supremacist.

I also thought about how they should just make a Wolfenstein movie instead and cast John Cena in that. As other people have said, Channing Tatum could also do it.

Channing Tatum is a better actor, but John Cena looks like an action figure / superhero. It would feel right from that perspective.

Also, worth mentioning, god they better not make that Duke Nukem movie.

If they're going for the Wolfenstein 2009 look then they can just throw everything out the window and get BJ's current voice actor, Brian Bloom.

That said I'm sure it'd just end up being one of the Chrises in the role. Like BJ, Chris Pine is technically Jewish and hates inequality.

BJ has those pensive, poetic moments...I think he’d nail the rah-rah soldier moments, but maybe that’s because he’s etched into my brain as Captain America after seeing what seems like dozens of those Marvel movies with my kids.

It’s the nearly warrior/philosopher mix that makes me lean towards earlier picks like Jon Bernthal (who was good and showed range in Walking Dead, but was super effective in The Punisher) and especially Tom Hardy (who mixes the chops of a Pacino with the body morphing of a DiNero or Christian Bale).

Also, BJ is brutal when brutality is called for. I guess I’d be pretty curious to see a Chris Evans take, even if I think the other two would nail it more.

Also, is Channing Tatum a decent actor? I always thought he was man-meat they could stuff into some clothes so they could promptly undress him. I’ve see him in a thing or two years ago, and he didn’t strike me as very memorable. Does he just look the role, or can the man act?

I feel like they would just choose The Rock, videogame movies dont often get actors that look like their game counterparts.

Also Cena as Duke sounds terrible, you would need an old sleazy dude to play that role. Sort of like Mickey Rourke. (he's a bit too old though)

@nutter: Chris Evans was in Snowpiercer which was pretty goddamn brutal.

His voice actor in the newer games, Brian Bloom. He plays "Central" in X-Com 2 and was Kane in Kane and Lynch, was the bad dude in the A-Team film, so he knows how to shoot people.

Cena looks the part for BJ. I am not sure about his acting skills, but he already looks like a 90s comic book character.

Everything I’ve seen Cena in has mostly been comedy based and he’s not bad at that but honestly, as effective as the current direction of BJ is, there’s not a massive amount of range.

I don’t think you’d necessarily need a great actor to pull it off, just someone focused on getting those one or two things right and I kinda have faith that one day Cena will go from being a pretty funny ‘sometimes-actor’ to a pretty decent ‘real-actor’.

So yeah, he’s my pick.

Although the moment Tom Hardy says he’ll play BJ, everyone else can fuck right off.

Dude is maybe the most effective understated actor in 30 years of film. Take his characaters from either Warrior or The Drop and give them a Southern accent? He’s basically already playing them how you’d want an onscreen BJ to be played.

I'm gonna second Karl Urban. He doesn't necessarily look the part, but I'm absolutely confident he'd put in an incredible performance as BJ.
