Do they read off a teleprompter or something?

How do they remember all their lines?

I'm asking because I keep seeing them staring off into the distance as if they are reading but the cameras not showing anything..
Anyone ever been to a live taping and know?

Probably reading. It is all acting, you know that right? WWE is now the equivalent of a daytime soap opera with more half naked men.

Actually the headpieces they have in have someone in the back telling them salient points they want the announcers to mention and prompting them for certain things.  Otherwise it's off the cuff.  Some color commentators for that show has quit over having people constantly streaming things for them to say.

That's exactly what wrestling is- soap operas for men.

I agree with you guys I'm not a fan of wrestling.  I was just flipping through the channles and stopped to watch some guy talking and it got me thinking.

Used to love it... until it started sucking. Couldn't beat wrestling in the 80's and early 90's though.

I completely disagree. Even the worst soap operas have stories that look like Citizen Kane or War in Peace when compared to the WWE. Saying it's a soap opera for men insults the intelligence of men everywhere.

Right now Smackdown is amazing.  Only thing I'll pull up Hulu to watch (since my cable provider doesn't have MyNetworkTV).  Terrific roster and great action.  Punk's playing the perfect tweener and there's the looming threat of him pulling the "I'm straight edge and you're a drugged out loser" turn on Jeff Hardy.  Y2J and Edge are amazing on the mic and can back it up.  Jeff Hardy's clean and on top of his game. Mysterio has Jericho feeding him straight from the fountain of youth's tap. Morrison is getting a huge push and is hitting his high risk stuff clean.

If you like watching it for people who do things you'll never be able to do in your life, the action's great.  If you're watching it for some deep philosophical meaning, read a book instead.   But right now Smackdown's good, brainless fun, and I couldn't ask for much more from professional wrestling...

I think most of it, with WWE doing it a lot more than other places, it's 'scripted shoot' stuff.  Meaning they are given a topic, but they decide what to say mostly.  The commentators are given stuff to say (JR made a pretty good comeback a few weeks ago on his partner asking him who fed him his line when he made a jab at JR). That's the reason most talking segments are kind of crap now, because most of the wrestlers now have no acting chops, and/or can't improv, and/or are drunk. Wish I was joking about that last part.

@Daroki:
 SmackDown is awesome right now. The 'SmackDown Six' (Jericho, Punk, Edge, Hardy, Mysterio, and Morrison) are perhaps the best six guys to be on one show in a long, long time.  It's cool right now they are all working together, but I really wish they'd use those 6 guys to push up some of the younger guys (although Morrison and Punk are both pretty young).  Here's to hoping they put Evan Bourne on Friday's so they can stop making him wrestle Mark Henry.

I love how some of my most homophobic friends used to enjoy wrestling...There is NOTHING more homoerotic than wrestling, maybe besides gay porn.
