I don't think it is anything like the Smurfs. If it was a ripoff, it would be more like Thundercats when they said that in the article.

There was a book written a while ago in which Man goes to Mars (I think) to mine a rare mineral (destroying beautiful nature in the process) and encounters natives who are blue, centaur creatures, and so they get a soldier to hop in an avatar to spy on em, then he ends up joining them. So yeah, James Cameron ripped the shit out of that.

Well, i didnt click the link  
But i know from the imdb forums that this movie has a similar plot to Dances with Wolves and Ferngully. But since i have seen neither, i couldnt care less. The movie looks awesome, the reviews (all of them including the negative ones) say its a groundbeaking film in terms of visuals and 3D technology, so its a must see for me. I can't wait until friday night at the IMAX
