Iphone 3G.. Should I upgrade If I already have the older model?!

I currently have the 8GB original model of the iphone and was thinking about selling it on Ebay since they still sell really good on ebay. I paid $400.00 for it, I really like the 3G, I got to try one out today. Oh and another question, I was thinking about unlocking my old Iphone when I sell it so I can get more money, is that illegal meaning could I go to jail for that or no?!  Anyone here have the 3G or an Iphone period that can possibly help me out?!

I don't think it is a big enough of a change, I would wait until they update the phone again and then buy that one.
