Looks like they did the Martin Shkreli sentence today. He got 7 years or 84 months.
There's an article about it up on Vice right now if you're interested.

@monkeyman04: Also an important factor in this sentence is his constant disparagement of the judge/prosecutors and dumbass antics like the one that got his bail revoked. Probably would have been much lighter w/o that.
@monkeyman04: Yep. He fucked over people with the means to fight back.
Remember, fuck over poor people and it's alright, but fuck over rich people you'll get 7 years.
:(
does this mean we can listen to Wu-Tang now?
The government might eventually auction it off, so save your pennies. Me, I kinda hope they store it away in one of their secret warehouses that house the Lost Ark of the Covenant and the Roswell flying saucer.
I seem to be out of a loop here.....who is this dude?

He is the guy who bought a pharma company and increased the cost of the drug Daraprim (people with a specific illness required this to live) 5000% because no one else manufactured it. Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump AND Bernie Sanders all came out against him during the last election campaign. He goes by the handle 'Pharma Bro'. He did speaking gigs beside Milo Yiannopoulos. He was kicked off twitter for harassment.
Oh and I guess he was super into League of Legends and tried to buy a few Esports teams. He also allegedly bought a Wu Tang album of which there was a single copy.
@sasnake: Ha, yeah, all the info is in this thread, OR you could just look at his frickin' face in those two videos posted by @cliffordbanes and that also will tell you all you need to know I think haha.
I feel a little sorry for him. I know I'm nuts, but I do feel he has been rather disconnected from a sense of humanity, and that it might be because he has issues. He didn't seem to grasp when his whole act was fatally working against him. Too easy to hate him, when the other dicks and dickettes are getting away with what they do.
Remember, fuck over poor people and it's alright, but fuck over rich people you'll get 7 years.

I will let nothing ruin this, especially not cold unfeeling reality.
Hah!
This fucker was scumbag 101. Boy, did he ever have this coming. The way in which it happened is totally irrelevant outside any meaningful look at modern classism. (Siiiiiighhh..)
I love this guy. He's like the perfect encapsulation of shitiness. It's like he came out of a movie. Just look at the guy! He's so good at being the biggest asshat in the world.
He totally deserves the sentence he got, and even worse than that, just to be clear.
Everyone take note that he was NOT sentenced for increasing the price of the AIDS drug by 5000%. He was sentenced for defrauding his investors. As @monkeyman04 said, him fucking over poor people = ok. Him fucking over rich people = 7 years in prison.
@cerberus3dog: And, to be fair, if he hadn't acted like a complete and total assbag to congress and judges every step of the way, he could have gotten the clean-cut white guy special of "this can be a teaching moment" and a shorter sentence, with immediate parole, and basically probation and some community service, probably.
The really depressing bit, beyond the fact that the raise in price probably ruined hundreds of peoples lives, is that what he did is depressingly common (as in nearly every buyout in pharma). Also, that it's not illegal. He didn't get convicted of price gouging. He basically got convicted of embezzling. So as Monkeyman so aptly put it up at the top of this thread, he got punished for screwing with rich folks, not for probably bankrupting/pricing out people from their ability to live.
If anyone wants to see a fairly succinct rundown of this, check out the Netflix doc series, Dirty Money. It goes over this as well as the whole VW debacle and some other shennanigan like the Montreal Maple Syrup Mob and Trump. They use "Lie, Cheat, Steal" by RTJ for the theme song in case you want a bonus reason to check it out. Man that's a good song. In fact, here:
