Where does the battle take place? Land or water?

Whichever! Most likely water or at least near water.

Its a pointless question unless its in or near water. Because a legless animal on land is about the least threatening thing i can think off.

Im assuming both animals are at the largest size possible.

What damage could a bear possibly do to a shark? unless it got lucky and swiped the gills.

Bear, it's got big claws a wider attack range and 99999 attack points! (Yeah i had to.) The shark only has it's mouth, which isn't has mobile as arms and legs, not to mention it's only got 500 attack points.

Bear would definitely win. Bears are apt swimmers, and their claws could cut off the shark's fins without a second glance. So what if the shark bites? Bears are freaking thick, and the last thing a shark wants is to be hit in the head (or clawed in the head).

If we're talking about some kind of psuedo-futuristic battle for the survival of the human race involving a shark and a bear then my money is on the bear, they eat fish whereas sharks don't eat bears (to the best of my recollection) and they can walk on land and doggie paddle. If we're talking about which one is overall better I'd have to say some kind of shark-bear hybrid where the shark has bears for teeth and each of the claws on the bears is another shark-bear hybrid.

Landshark owns bear because it is super deadly, and shark owns waterbear because bears can't swim.

Well there was a guy in my local paper who was getting attacked by a Shark and he punched it in the eye and if shat itself and let his leg go and swam off. If some scrawny dude can do that a bear would bollocks that shark big time. They go alright in water.

Shark hands down... it has to be in water for it to involve the shark in the first place. Once a bear is in there it's toast vs a shark.
