I hesitate to post this given how much this community seems to hate me but, it seems important. So SOPA has dropped DNS blocking from the bill so that they would not be able to block access to offending sites.

Now if only they could be more specific on the actual nature of offending content I would be able to whole heartedly support SOPA. I don't expect anyone else to change their minds. But this development is good news for everyone. Isn't it?

It's a small step in the right (sane) direction, however the whole idea (also PIPA) seems a bit shifty for my taste.

It seems like a pretty huge step to me.

@TentPole: It's just the nebulous nature of their definitions that frightens me. Sure, they recant on the DNS blocking, however the bill still gives them way too much muscle to throw around in general. However, I am far from an expert on the subject so take what I say with a grain of salt.

@Conformunist: Yeah that is what keeps me from supporting the bill as-is. It is a huge problem that they need to figure out so that sites like Giant Bomb can't get caught in the crossfire.

No matter how much someone hates you they should at least have the balls to man up and still go against SOPA.
Then again, hating someone over the internet seems kinda pathetic in the first place so do we really need those people?

well i have said this again, US websites should find an out of country website, and US people will have to use a proxy to get too them. it seems like a good idea to do that. i don't think there is going to be a way to block all websites because a websites are all over the place.

Wooo! One step in the right direction.

I'm supporting the good fight from overseas, if only to stop my own government from getting any ideas...

If you have twenty five layers of crazy and you remove one layer, you still have twenty four layers of crazy.

No SOPA. Period.

Proxy's are under threat, too. So even taking that measure wouldn't ensure you could still access the material you wanted to.

The DMCA was a horrible idea. This is still a worse idea. Anybody who votes for it should be turfed from office the moment the vote is cast.
