As if Geen Day won anything for their ast album, it was a shocker. Kings of Leon are alright but overplayed. If I was a judge i'd give Thrice every possible award, beggars was astonishingly good.
Awards shows are broadcast for the soul purpose of ratings. Instead of actually recognizing outstanding artists and groups, it's just an annually televised program meant to make money by showcasing all of the mainstream audiences favourite acts (for the year) and getting people to watch. If the Grammy's were headlined by lesser known acts, then no-one would ever watch it. Now I'm not saying that the people who win at these award shows aren't talented or undeserving, but at the end of the day they are winning because they are currently very famous and will push the ratings up based upon their nominations and performances at the show.

How can Kings of Leon be good when they make 20 seconds of music and stretch it out into 4 minutes to make a song? A friend showed me them and they are bad but I guess it is catchy to the young folk

I listened to that song use somebody... And I found it very annoying.
On Kings of Leon...it took me a while to remember whether I liked them or not, then after listening to something like "Use Somebody", I found that they are in fact just a bit more hipster friendly version of Nickelback or even something like U2. With that said...who's heard that new Spoon album? It's fucking awesome right? Best of 2010 already?

I guess I can respect that.. But it's not really that its popular that bugs me... I think 80 percent of those artist are terrible... and that's just my personal opinion.. I think the people that are winning those awards are undeserving of it.

I am shocked by the KOL hate though.One of my favourite bands.Probably just people hating on the popularity of songs like Sex On Fire and Use Somebody. 2 songs out of 4 albums, 3 of which I think are masterpieces. Most recent one was ok..

@HandsomeDead: It's not necessarily about popular music automatically equaling suck (it's true most of the time, however). It's the fact that artists who are popular but 100x less talented than many others who don't get the same recognition (read: $$$) are being rewarded for producing cookie-cutter, safe music. I still stand by my claim that Lady Gaga, out of those nominated for Best Album, is the only one who can be considered original or fresh. Even still, I could name you about 20 more deserving albums than "The Fame" that could've been nominated for Best Album of 2009.
