This alien likes watermelons and bananas, apparently.

The NicoNico-loving among you are probably aware of this fairly profound video already, but for everybody else: I present to you Supoo (スプー). Supoo is, simply put, a wondrous monstrosity of an alien that children were taught to draw on Japanese airwaves several years ago. Accompanying the drawing is a wondrous song that actually does mention that Supoo likes watermelones and bananas, but you don't need to understand a word of it to really comprehend why Supoo is such a, er, beloved creature on much of the Japanese-speaking Internet.

And as a bonus, those who are especially hardcore may have already recognized the corresponding parody from the very wonderfully psychotic anime Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei.

Truly, I learned Japanese so I could comprehend this stuff. Yep. Definitely.

Can't say I get the implied humor here, but I'm probably looking too hard.

Supoo is not very kawaii on the evidence of those adult depictions of the creature. I much prefer the little kids drawings :D

That show looks surprisingly normal...

The girl can't sing or draw and the guy keeps losing it because of that fact? He bursts out laughing at the end

@coffeesash: I don't think it was the singing he was laughing about so much as it was just the fact that her drawing turned out to be so, ah, interestingly different than his, despite the two of them following the same directions as dictated by the song. If I had to guess, maybe they only had one take to do it for whatever odd reasons? That's the only plausible scenario I can think of that would result in the drawing going so seemingly awry.

You can tell from their body language that he is comfortable with drawing while she isn't. Well it's fun anyway, I'm sure it was done on purpose so they have a drawing that looks like what the kids will come up with so they can identify with it, and one really good drawing to aspire to.

Understanding what they're saying makes it even more bizarre.

I was like, "well this isn't THAT weird; I've seen plenty of stranger stuff on Japanese television"....

Then they said he likes to eat watermelons.

@ahoodedfigure: I think you're referring to "bata bata," actually, which, among other meanings, is onomatopoeic for flapping sounds in Japanese. It makes sense, since the lyrics are discussing how to draw the wings right when they say it. If I'm mistaken, though, and you're referring to an entirely different part of the video, though, feel free to correct me.

I'm acutely sensitive to "baka" because it's one of the few Japanese words I know, so sometimes I wind up hearing it when it isn't there :)  I'm betting you're 100% right.
