What cool stuff is in/around LA?

As part of a consulting project, I'm driving to LA tomorrow and will be there for the better part of a year. I've been to Disney Land a few times, but have otherwise never visited the area. I'll be about 20 miles east of the city so I can't do stuff there every day, but I definately want to enjoy it while I'm there. So I need the answer to 2 questions:

1. Where is that amazing sounding cereal restraunt Jeff and Ryan went to a few years ago?

2. What else is there to do?

GDC is there in March. Even if you don't go, you should just hang out around the Moscone convention center for a bit. If you want to feel small and insignificant, that's a good way to do it.

There is a huge variety of stuff to do in LA. What are you into?

Does Universal Studios still have the Back to the Future ride? Fun ride.

Plus cheap flights to San Fransisco/Vegas.

go to ticketmaster.com, type in Los Angeles - there you go. There are always events happening.

You can do all the touristy stuff like going to Hollywood, Korea Town, Little Tokyo. . . don't go to china town unless it's just to have dim sum.

Mostly you can get a huge variety of ethnic food. I know a bunch of good places for the aforementioned cultures + a couple Mexican stops that's sure to please. If you'll be there with a lady companion, or if you just like to shop yourself, there's the Beverly Center, The Grove, Americana and a bunch of single street shopping locations that are a little less traveled but have really nice (expensive) boutique shops and eateries. All in all, there's a ton of stuff to do in the L.A. area just because there are so many people living there. Though, I think 80% of it is somewhat ghetto. It's also pretty damn dirty unless you're in the nice areas (which is the 20% that's not ghetto).

Natural History Museum, California Science Center. Downtown LA has lots of interesting shops.

Well the Getty is a fantastic place with some great paintings, and they might still have a fantastic exhibit on Medieval illuminated manuscripts
