Really hated Broken Arrow but don't really have a single answer why. So all I'm gonna say is NO to answer L. Bullet in the Head as well as a few others prove John Woo can direct a fantastic movie without the skills of Chow Yun Fat.

"A Serious Man" is a Coen Brothers film. It was released in theaters internationally in 2009 and reviewed very well. Slater chose to move away from action blockbusters because of Broken Arrow. Hollywood still likes the guy.

Wait. So this is the movie people mean when they talk about Broken Aroow? I always thought it was a Vietnam movie about a squad defending a base or something of that importance that gets into a no win situation and sends a broken arrow request to the HQ. I remember seeing it in the theatre and I think it was alright.
@PrivateIronTFU: Ha ha, he actually came forward and said that he regrets pretty much everything he did in the US, especially working with JCVD for Hard Target. Don't know about Face/Off though, that was both financially and critically successful and in my opinion the only film that shows signs of quality.

I remember a fair percentage of critics having a good response for it when it was released and it earned a pretty good profit in the end. Certainly on another level to films like Paycheck, Broken Arrow and Hard Target. Those films have there followers but they seemed lacking to me, the acting wasn't great and Woo's trademark style seemed infrequent during the film, even non-existent at parts.

Sorry, I meant "He Was a Quiet Man". Also released internationally in theaters and also reviewed favourably. I don't know why I got them confused, I own them both too.

I was bummed Dan Ryckert didn't enjoy this one. I love this film. My favorite part is when Christian Slater does that absolutely ridiculous dive cradling the shotgun while firing it, the most unlikely action position I've seen on film. I love in David Foster Wallace movie (The Tour) There is a scene that is just him watching Broken Arrow and vibing with it. Like, heck ya man. Even the bots agree!
I clicked on this hoping someone discovered this through recent Friends at the Table discourse, and my hopes were dashed. Austin’s quote during it absolutely sent me: “I haven’t seen [Broken Arrow] in at least 20 years. Actually, Art, we definitely watched it in college. …oh shit.”
Personally, I’ve only seen this movie once, in the way that God intended: channel surfing after an NFL game ended. It was perfectly fine.
