I thought the movie would be ok, but it seems like we have the next big sci-fi action movie coming our way this Friday. In 1999 it was the Matrix, now 10 years later we get District 9.
General Consensus:Technically brilliant and socially poignant, District 9 has action, imagination, and all the elements of a thoroughly entertaining science-fiction classic.
That's very exciting to hear. I know next to nothing about the movie, but apparently that's the way it should be and possibly why I have seen next to no marketing around this movie.

This movie isn't coming out in Japan...I've never been more pissed about a movie in my life. Been waiting for it all summer and it's been the only movie I've wanted to see all summer. God damn Japanese movie board...

Comparing it to other movies...this had very small marketing.
Edit: I'm not in the States, so I honeslty have no idea how it's being marketed there.

Long time users here know I've been living here in Japan for years and I hate old time Japan and their "elite" way of thinking. They also know about my crazy jobs, and random crap with signs, and the epic real life trolling at Dragon Quest IX launch party that made me famous on TV and 2ch in Japan. Greatest thing I've done in years.

I was insinuating the KaosAngel should travel to a region where District 9 was showing, so that he can buy a ticket and see the movie as intended by those who created it.

Well at least you will eventually be able to see a high quality version. It may not be a week after the US release but you'll still see it at some point.
exactly, and now all of those billboards everywhere have been switched with actual billboards with the movie logo and a shot from the film. I've seen these ads all over Philly. Also, it has a huge internet ad thing going, just go to joblo.com or comingsoon.net right now and see what i mean.
Besides Max Payne which I remember starting its RT run on 0%, doesn't everything start in the 90% zone and then slide down? That's not to say I don't trust RT nor that I think District 9 will be bad but at this point, the numbers don't mean much.
@KaosAngel: That usually means that it won't come out here in Japan for another 6 - 8 months because they didn't project it to be a hit. The first Matrix movie didn't come out in Japan until September 1999, but 2 and 3 came out the same day as in the States.

In terms of this being the first great sci-fi since The Matrix... Did you all forget about Star Trek? That movie was rated insanely high. Last time I was on RottenTomatoes it had a 95%.
Well this is good to know since I got suckered into going with friends to see it this weekend. I am not looking forward to it, because the trailers I saw did nothing for me, but I shall remain optimistic. Hopefully it will be good.

@xyzygy: You are right, dude. That was an awesome sci-fi movie. I guess what I meant to say was an original sci-fi movie, seeing as how Star Trek has been around for quite some time. I was mostly compairing this to Minority Report, iRobot, and various other sci-fi blockbusters from recent years.
@VWGTI: I've just been looking through his profile and it seems that on nearly everything critically acclaimed, he's the other way and vice versa. It seems so much that it's almost like a gimmick to be controversial, but this is the first time i've ever seen the guy so I can hardly assess his agenda but still, seems like a dickhead.
I like that guy on that site - Armond White. He's some older black gentleman (if you're a person of color after you pass 50 you cease being a "guy") who exclusively wears green sweaters.
