Poll Would you pay $50 for a proper PC PC port of Red Dead Redemption (184 votes)

Yes 51%
No 49%

Red Dead is a game I've always wanted to play but at this point I refuse to dig out my 360 and hook it back up. Also that frame rate looks pretty bad. What do you duders think?

I had played a bit of RDR recently, and the framerate's perfectly fine on PS3, which was the (marginally) inferior version.

If it were really well done (like Max Payne 3) and had all of the DLC in it, I'd pay around $30

Maybe when it was new.

But if by "proper" you include moddability, then maybe. Voting "yes" for the sake of voting though.

Not unless Rockstar tinkers with it to make it more interesting.

...

...

...anyway, the framerate on consoles holds up just fine and the game looks fucking fantastic. If you are curious about playing Red Dead but are afraid of performance problems or whatever, don't be. Just go play it.

Nope. I played it when it came out on the 360. It's way too late for a PC version at full price now.

$50 now? Probably not. I'd have paid that much a year or so ago.

Certainly, $50 is pretty cheap for a AAA title in my country. $67 tends to be the norm on steam and new AAA titles on console goes for as much as $90.

Maybe more like $40, since it's been a while. I definitely would like a version with better framerate and image quality. Parts of it look really nice, but it's very obvious you're playing a console game.

I've payed hundreds of dollars for a single game in the past. $50 for a good PC port is nothing.

I'd welcome a competent port but that ship sailed years ago. It's still the only R* game I've 100% cleared, picking flowers was more fun than blasting pigeons.

If it were around the time the game originally came out maybe to some it would be worth it. 50$ now? Fuck no that isn't worth it. I also don't feel the game is some perfect masterpiece like plenty others do, though.

For every 1 dude willing to pay $50 for read dead on pc there are:

- 3 other dudes whiling to whine endlessly about console port

- 5 other dudes whiling to whine endlessly about the lack or (not proper) support for mods

- And finally like 20 dudes that would just torrent it

Ain't hard to see why Rockstar just won't bother.

No sir! Played and beat it on consoles. I'd support it for $30, though, just to show that there's a market. I wouldn't mind jumping back in for a few hours and shooting fools up, either. The gunplay in that game was incredible.

Absolutely, just to hear him yell out the names of wanted people when he goes after them. That was always awesome.

Can't you make this argument about most Console to PC ports that have success? This argument held a lot of water a few years back, but publishers seem to be embracing PC more and more due to the success of Steam.

I bought the game on both 360 and PS3. I'd probably get a PC version eventually, but definitely wouldn't buy it at launch and definitely not for $50.

I just finished it yesterday on 360. They'd need to fix a lot of the graphical issues (higher framerate, better textures, native 1080p, anti-aliasing, better lighting/shadows, etc). I was playing on a 1080p monitor so it certainly looked quite dated in several spots.

No, I wouldn't. The 360 version was fine. It was just on sale during black friday / cyber monday for $15 or less in some retail spots with all the DLC (Undead Nightmare was fantastic). I guess you should have looked at is as, if someone paid YOU $35 in savings, would you dig up your 360 and play one of the best games of this past generation (easily top 3 in my mind)?

This. Me too. They don't even have to add mod support (though steamworks would be nifty).

@thiago123: Lots of games that were "fine" on 360 are "great" on PC. And like I said, I really don't care to bust out my 360 ever again. I personally would rather pay $60 for a 1080p 60fps version of the game than a $15 sub 720p version of the game running at 30 fps when I'm lucky. Call me crazy, but I'll gladly pay a premium for higher fidelity.

Not at this point. You can't wait this long and then charge full price, no matter how good the game ostensibly is. Maybe $30-40 with a GOTY edition with all DLC. It won't ever happen though. The time where you could even dream about it has passed.

Charge $40.00 for the main game, $10.00 for the Undead Nightmare content, and you have my fifty dollars.

I am not hopeful that this will ever happen, however.

simply put no.. I may actually be one of the only people who thought this game was totally shit, a western shooter elder scrolls clone just sounds awful and was... lot of people liked it i just didn't, was a terrible looking game that just simply didn't interest me in the slightest. Graphics were shockingly bad, especially when you compare it to GTA or Mafia II. This can literately stay on consoles.

It's never going to happen, friends. It's been 4 years, and it was developed on the PC-shitty GTAIV engine. I doubt Rockstar would ever want to port to PC on that engine in their lives. The new engine however (MP3, GTAV), I'm sure we'll be seeing ports of every game.

But, yes. I would pay up to 70$ to play Red Dead using a mouse and keyboard with anti-aliasing and fast loading speeds.

It's a damn shame I have to wiggle a rubber stick to shoot in that amazing western game, feels like having sex without a dick.

It doesn't matter if people want it or not, it's just not going to happen. Rockstar San Diego NEVER release their games on PC. It just won't happen.
