Shovel Knight getting its own Amiibo

Nintendo has released a trailer for the Amiibo.

Title says it all, really.

I sort of think Amiibos are dumb, but I do like some Shovel Knight.

This all seems a bit off. The packaging isn't exactly like other Amiibos (it's a Nintendo seal instead of it just saying 'Nintendo') and this would mean preorders start...well...now? Or tomorrow?

Unless Nintendo is trying a stealth release this seems strange. Also it doesn't mention Smash Bros which would, in theory, be the main reason for this to exist. Unless Shovel Knight was willing to sign on with Nintendo and get themselves a toy.

It all just seems really strange.

@finaldasa: The Amiibo subreddit seems convinced, if only because it doesn't look like any of the fakes that have come before it.

The fact that they deleted it and posted cheeky follow-up tweets is enough indication.
And if that weren't enough, Yacht Club games were going to announce something at PAX as well.

People were speculating it would be SK in Smash but now that we've seen that the Amiibo does not belong to the Smash series I think we can fairly safely assume it'll just be the Amiibo.

If all this speculation is correct, he will most be in Smash as well. Either way, I want that amiibo.

Looks cool. I wasn't sure about the rewards for the Amiibo. In the trailer, it says Co-op and one mode? I never played Shovel Knight. Have to look it up.

How the heck do amiibo work? if they release a new one does it have to get patched into every game or will it just not work with most games that are already out?

Also why isn't that guy wearing shoes?

Most Amiibo only work with certain games. At best when a game detects an Amiibo it doesn't specifically support it just spits out a powerup or something small for that game. For example, in Hyrule Warriors Link unlocks a specific Link weapon and a Captain Falcon Amiibo (or any other non-Zelda one) "unlocks a random weapon rated 3 stars or lower, material or rupees". In the case of this Shovel Knight amiibo it will unlock stuff in the Shovel Knight game and do almost nothing with any other game.

This is now my most wanted Amiibo, and just when I thought I was finally over them.
