Overview
Fougasse is a single-player puzzle game released by Mofoblitz on September 20, 2017; exactly one year and one week after its previous title. The objective of the game is to clear all mines from a board by flagging every tile believed to have a mine beneath it.
Gameplay
Fougasse consists of a large number of tiles arranged in a grid, several of which have mines under them. If there's no mine underneath, the tile reveals a number indicating how many mines are adjacent to it. If there aren't any mines nearby, the tile simply clears.
The goal is to flag every tile containing a mine, which is done by right-clicking. Additionally, the player can mark tiles thought to contain mines with question marks by right-clicking twice. The game has a count of how many mines are present, which goes down per each flag added.
Fougasse features two board types, square and circular, the latter of which has eight possible designs. The square board consists of 81 tiles, and the default circular board consists of 28 tiles. Additionally, the other circular board types consist of 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, and 25 tiles.
Fougasse has three standard difficulty modes:
- Easy: 9 mines (square board), 4 mines (default circular board)
- Medium: 13 mines (square board), 6 mines (default circular board)
- Hard: 17 mines (square board), 9 mines (default circular board)
Additionally, two joke modes are also present:
- Babby Mode: 1 mine
- Impossibible: 80 mines (square board), 26 mines (default circular board)
Furthermore, a custom mode is present, which allows the player to add as many mines as they see fit. Several other options are also present, which can be enabled separately or simultaneously:
- Multimine: Causes random number tiles to display an artificially inflated count, thus making the game more difficult.
- Vertical Loop: Causes number tiles on the top row of tiles to detect mines on the bottom row, and vice versa. A Mobius mode is also present, which makes the loop more complex.
- Horizontal Loop: Causes number tiles on the first column of tiles to detect mines on the last column, and vice versa.
Development
Fougasse's development began on September 16, 2017, when one of Mofoblitz's programmers, madaco, wanted to create a small game within a short amount of time. As the idea of making a wraparound Minesweeper game had been considered before, the concept was quickly expanded into a full game with several features not present in most versions of Minesweeper.
