Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime is a downloadable title that just recently hit the consoles and PC market.  You may not have heard much about it since the marketing of the game seems to have been a bit on the low, but I got wind of it and couldn't resist picking up a title based off of a childhood favorite.  Does this downloadable title offer enough game for the $10 price tag or is it destined to be forgotten in the cesspool that is Slimers stomach?  Read on to find out.

The game begins with a comic book style story intro.  There's no voice work, just text in comic style on pictures.  You are introduced to a strange artifact that originates over 4,000 years ago and is now wreaking havoc on NYC.  You play as one of four rookie Ghostbusters who are helping the real Ghostbusters handle their large work load.  The story does tie into the lore that we all know and love but don't expect anything state of the art in terms of storytelling.  For the most part, you are just going to be shooting stuff.

Gameplay, as stated earlier, is pretty basic.  You point and shoot.  Ghosts will come from all directions and try to run into you or shoot stuff at you.  You will travel through a level going through rooms, hallways, or streets and eventually come face to face with a boss ghost who takes a lot of punishment with a pretty big health bar.  You will die a lot in this game and when you do, you can be revived.  As long as someone is left standing the game will go on.  Reviving someone consists of standing over their body and spamming the A or X button (consoles) or space bar (PC).  The gameplay is fun enough, for a while, but after playing for a solid hour or so you'll begin to feel the tedium of exactly what you are doing.  The enemies may change, the scenery may change, but you're really not doing anything different.  You'll shoot and move throughout the level.  Throughout levels you'll find pickups and collectibles, but it doesn't really help the game in the boring department.  It jut gets old way too quick and you're left waiting for something, anything to happen that will mix up the gameplay.  Keep waiting, it's not coming.

So, if you are a hardcore Ghostbusters fan, you probably don't even need to read a review about the game, you bought it and are making your own opinion of it.  If not, you probably should avoid this one and go find another shooter.  There's plenty of other games on the market that will offer a much better and varied experience than Ghostbusters: SoL.

SoS is right. This game is in trouble! 0

I never thought Sanctum of Slime would be as entertaining as the previous Ghostbusters game. Nevertheless, I wanted to pick it up since it looked like a fun and small game to pass the time with. If nothing else, the small price made it a justified purchase and I was sure the multiplayer would keep me entertained for a while. And heck, it's Ghostbusters! There's fun to be found somewhere!I was dead wrong. From the word 'go' I found myself disappointed in SoS's design. The "go to room, zap ghosts, ...
