So, that title kind of says it all, but to reiterate, Good Old Games's Steam-ish (except still completely DRM free) software for launching, updating, buying, multiplayer...ing, and doing community things has been opened up to beta and you can sign up to test it out HERE.

And to sweeten the deal, anyone who gets in the beta will also get a free copy of Aliens versus Predator classic 2000 (the good old one that was updated for modern PCs) to test Galaxy's multiplayer.

For anyone who hasn't even heard that GOG is doing doing the whole "app" thing, here's their announcement video.

Ya, they sent me an email about it a few days ago.

I deleted it. I don't care really about the beta for this.

The original AvP wasn't that great. AvP 2 was amazing, though.

I already have the AvP classic 2000 version on Steam but i'm excited to try Galaxy since i don't like the archaic fashion in which GOG handles installs and updates. Hopefully with Galaxy i'll be more conscious of the GOG games i own. But then again i constantly forget about my Desura games, so who knows.

Yup, AvP 2000 was great.

I hope Galaxy will do something to help set up matches in games whose metaservers are no longer available (like games that used Gamespy). Especially easier ways to set up multiplayer in DOSBox games would be great.

I just got this and to clarify this is just a beta test for the online infrastructure so far. All that's visible is a small game launcher/updater. Game's fun though!

@audiobusting: Thanks for the specifics! There was hardly any detail about what was being "beta-ed", so I just naturally assumed it was the whole thing. Congrats on being a part of it! I hope you can help GOG squash some bugs (and I don't mean xenomorphs). :)
