    Overview

GOG.com is a digital distribution service for DRM-free PC, Mac, and Linux games. It originally focused on older games but now includes new releases. It is owned by CD Projekt, parent company of The Witcher developer CD Projekt RED, and was launched in late 2008.

The name "GOG" at first stood for "Good Old Games", but as the service increasingly offered new and recent releases, the expanded name was phased out.

On June 5, 2014, GOG.com announced GOG Galaxy, an 'optional client' that allows for online connectivity. This includes achievements; automatic game updates; as well as cross-play, allowing for connectivity between GOG.com players and players using other digital distributors.

    Features

    • The library includes games from major publishers (such as Atari, Activision, Electronic Arts, and Ubisoft) that may not be available from other digital game services.
    • Older games in the catalog generally cost either $5.99 or $9.99, subject to the publisher's wishes. However, newer games may cost more. The price does not change depending on user location. There are also several games released on the service for free.
    • Games are sold without Digital Rights Management (DRM). Users can install games on any computer and re-download them at any time. All games are playable without an Internet connection.
    • All games are compatible with Windows XP and Vista, and most are compatible with Windows 7 and 8 (both 32 and 64 bits). Some games are also available for Mac and Linux.
    • Extra content is included with every purchase for free. This can include walkthroughs, soundtracks, wallpapers, and other media related to the game.
