Grapple Boy

Overview

Grapple Boy is a simple platforming game where you must utilize Grapple Boy's grapple-tongue to navigate obstacles and reach the goal safely. There are spike hazards in most levels that will kill you if you touch them, often leading to the need to be very precise in order to advance safely.

Any surface that doesn't have a spike on it can be grappled. Once Grapple Boy has latched onto something, you can control his momentum while he swings. Grapple Boy can gain enough momentum to move a full 360 degrees without detaching from whatever he's swinging on, though that isn't necessarily a viable way of moving forward.

Strategies & Techniques

Every level in Grapple Boy has 3 achievements. The first achievement is beating the level within the time limit. The second is getting the video tape, of which one is hidden on every level. The third achievement is beating the level without letting Grapple Boy touch the ground more than a set amount of times.

Tongue Lashing

Tongue lashing is a technique which can allow one to beat most levels in Grapple Boy without ever letting Grapple Boy touch the ground. One must point the control stick down, then start repeatedly mashing the jump/grapple button. This utilizes the fact that the tongue has a minimum length coded into the game, and the fact that you start every level slightly up off the ground. If you immediately start tongue-lashing at the start of a level, it will propel Grapple Boy up to the minimum tongue distance, and from there, you can grapple to the end of most levels without ever having to touch the ground.
