    Gameplay

Gun Monkeys is a multiplayer only shooter for two players. It has both local and online multiplayer. The players start at opposite ends of a randomly generated map, near their power stations. Each player must traverse the map in order to pick up blue cubes of power and take them back to their power station to boost their power. Over the course of the match, the power in the station is slowly draining and so players must keep topping them up with the blue cubes in order to keep their power above 0. Killing the enemy player also increases your power, and dying reduces it.

The players have two weapons in the arsenal. The first of these weapons is a gun which can be fired with the E key by default. The default gun is semi-automatic and fires standard bullets, but powerups can be found that turns the gun into different weapons. Examples of these are the homing rockets, sniper rifle and retro gun. The second weapon the player has is a large bomb. This costs some power to deploy and fires 3 huge fireballs up and both left and right. While this is an effective weapon, it is also extremely easy to kill oneself with it. Powerups can also turn this bomb into mines and more.

    Story

In the future, humanity created an experimental device to harvest an extreme amount of energy that was desperately needed to maintain their high standard of living. This device worked, but had the unfortunate side-effect of wiping out the entire human race and turning them into blue cubes of raw energy.

In order to harvest this fantastic new energy, the humanity of the past must travel far into the future to harvest their future-selves. However, this is far too dangerous. That's why the player is made CEO of a corporation that is in charge of sending expendable monkeys into the future to bring back the blue cubes.
