Haer'Dalis is is a recruitable NPC in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn. The Tiefling Doomguard is first encountered as the enthralled prisoner of a wizard in the Athkatla sewers, and he offers to join the party permanently after the party rescues him and his troupe of Planewalking actors from a planar prison.
Haer'Dalis is a Bard, with the Blade subclass. He has two personalized weapons, the short swords Chaos and Entropy, and has the potential to become a fearsome damage dealer. He does, however, not have a high constitution, and some care must be taken to make sure he isn't cut to pieces instead of his foes.
Personality
As a Planewalker from the city of
Sigil, Haer'Dalis is familiar with all kinds of demons and monstrosities, and will often make wry, casual comments in situations that confound his more grounded companions - he will, however, be somewhat astonished by the player's transformation in the maze under Spellhold. He will chat with demons as if with a next-door neighbor, be intrigued and fascinated by the Bhaalspawn, and view the entire world as if he were a tourist in it, which he in a sense is.
As a Doomguard, he is dedicated to the notion that everything comes to an end, which is reflected both in his interactions with the player, and in his romance with Aerie, which burns out to a natural end as far as he is concerned.
Haer'Dalis's romance with
Aerie is a brief, bright flame that burns out and dies when she realizes her fair bard with his pretty words is far too different from her, but does nonetheless span both
Shadows of Amn and the
Throne of Bhaal expansion. For all his proclamation of intense feeling for his mourning dove, as he calls Aerie, he is not afraid to acknowledge when their romance has run its course. It is noteworthy, though, that their romance does not start with Aerie panicking about her wings; instead, it starts with him encouraging her as an actress and helping her to become more assertive.
Haer'dalis is fond of nicknames, finding a suitable animal-related epithet (usually a hound or some form of bird) for most of his companions, calling the player a raven, and referring to himself as a sparrow. He clashes with
Jaheira and
Yoshimo, not being accepted by the former and not himself accepting the latter; he teases
Anomen and
Edwin, flirts with
Imoen, spurns
Viconia, and seems to form a genuine friendship of sorts with
Keldorn.
Haer'Dalis is voiced by
Michael Bell.
