I was browsing through Polygon, and I ran across this link: http://www.polygon.com/2012/11/12/3637220/half-minute-hero-developers-gauging-sequel-localization-through-survey

There are web petitions. There are web surveys. Some have been successful (Dark Souls PC), others have made an arguable difference (Xenoblade and Last Story), but this is probably the first time I've seen a developer start their own survey and ask, "Yo, are people interested in this game?" I'd hesitate to even call it a survey, since there's only one question on it.

For those who haven't played the original, Half-Minute Hero is a super-fast spoof on the JRPG. And the sequel hasn't left Japan. Not yet.

EDIT: Link to the actual survey: http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/1080112/Half-Minute-Hero-2-Coming-to-the-West

There was all sorts of direct market research in the past. You used to buy games and they have a card inside asking questions for something. With tech it is now very easy for the developer to reach the fans directly and get information.

I saw "Half-" and "Sequel" and immediately got excited for Half-Life 3. Took the survey anyway.

This is really dumb, but I bought my PSP pretty much for the original game. I also picked up a little game called Monster Hunter Freedom Unite because I thought it might be fun to try.

So in a way, Half Minute Hero was my gateway drug to what became a Monster Hunter addiction!

This is the opposite of dumb. This is the smartest thing you could have done and you are a wonderful person for doing so.

Shit yeah. The original was one of the funniest games I've played. It lampooned JRPGs in the just the right way. I would definitely buy a sequel.

I know, and I totally loved the game so there's no buyer's remorse on my part. At the end of the day though, I did buy a console to play what is really a (excellent) glorified flash game.
