Glowiified Bowling
High Velocity Bowling was released in November 2007 at $9.99 on the PSN. But has this downloadable game been able to stand the test of time?
HVB is a bowling game, from SCE studios - Team Ramrod, that takes the genre a step further; adding characters with personalities, voice acting, different ball sets (with A through F ranking) and online play.
But is it really worth it? Wii Bowling did it correctly; just a mini-game in a package with a few other sports games. But this game, for the price, you’re really just getting a glorified Wii Bowling for the PSN with SixAxis. Although this is a great way to utilize SixAxis, most of the time it just feels that the SixAxis isn’t calibrated right, sometimes when you go to bowl, it won’t register that you’re even moving the controller.
The voice acting is pretty cheesy, and its one line per action; one line for strike, gutter ball, spare and so on. Needless to say, this gets old and annoying fast and the characters are not funny at all.
The online play is a ghost town. There is at most 10 people online, and it’s a good reason too… it’s just bowling and the game is 3 years old.
Sports games can usually evolve and get better over the years. Video games and bowling just don’t match for me. The only aspect of bowling in video games that’s ever going to change is the graphics, and maybe the way you bowl, but that’s it. Pass on this one.
