So who is the most lyrical rapper.. Well MC. Because nowadays there's a difference between the two that most people can clearly see, the division of hip-hop and rap. I gotta say that Technique is in my opinion the best in the game right now as far as lyricality and story telling abilities go, that's what an MC (Master of Ceremonies) is. A story teller. But who knows, there are so many people out there now.. What do you think?

Its still hands down Eminem or Ice Cube.  Those two fools are nasty writers.  Too bad everyone hangs on Jay Z's balls because he says New York in a song.  Fuck New York.  Westside till I die.

Ghostface.  Probably my favorite rapper even though he uses a lot of crazy Staten Island slang that usually needs explanation.

This is just off the top of my head, not sure how different it would be if I gave it some thought, but Rhymefest and Del are easy contenders.

Nas is still one of my favorites although he lost his step recently. He does have some real nice songs here and there, but I'm still digging his old stuff from the 90's. It's way better than the new shit that's on the radio.

Eminem is by far the most lyrical rappers. His texts blow my mind.  Just listen to this. Don't let all the swearing get you down, listen to the word play.. If you can't catch up, these are the lyrics:

I come around like what goes around
What goes up must come down, anyone who comes up must go down
Might as well go for the gusto now
Better not let up, better not let them breathe
Last shot, give it all you got
Try to turn me down bitch, get fucked with a volume knob
Fuck all you snobs, hoes now i hope all you rot
2 bottles of lubriderm and a box of condoms is that all you brought?
And you want a Ménage à trois you twats?
Fuck that I'd rather turn this club to a ballroom brawl
Get rowdy as Roethlisberger in a bathroom stall
Like a leaf stuck in a vacuum yall
ain't nuttin but a whole lotta suckin going on in rap
Yeah but I'm home, back for the bone, back in the zone
leave him alone you don't wanna go eggin him on
It'll never be my chair that you own
crown so tight that it cuts all circulation
no air to the brain no oxygen other words it's no heir to the throne
When I die so does hip-hop
hitchcock did a shit bitch ass doc got his zip locked in a bag
you fags ain't been able to fade me since kid rock had a hi-top
keep bloggin while I'm mind boggling I zone like I'm in the twilight dog
get off my bone, this is my mic dog and i like hoggin it
flow so wet ima take this beat tabboggoning, i'm water loggin it, i'm soggin it
pull your verse out the beat and stomp on it
suplexing it on cement like im on some straight outta compton shit
take this dick and chomp on it, i'm so bad i could bitch slap a back handed compliment
jackass, eat a donkey dick, the game i just about conquered it
like donkey kong, i'm bonkers bitch i'm the king of this honkey shit
i reign supreme in this honkey shit
no screaming and arguing makes no difference whether a benz or a bentley or a beamers the car you in
you think you ball well i bomb it, i throw up bombs when i vomit
i throw down in the kitchen might hit your mum with my omlette
but you got egg on your face, now watch me drop it atomic
i should be strapped to the chest of a kamikaze bitch
i'm as bat shit as Ozzy its obvious you can tell right off the bat
no pun intended but come any closer ill bite off your head
trying to give me the fingers like giving a spider the web
I'm just gonna spin it and use it to my advantage
i catch a fly in that bitch, you think you fly, you just food
i give as much of a flying fuck as that superman dude
Guess I just do what you cant do, i make you look stupid and bamboozled
confused as usual and you can ripped she can open a can too
you better hope you can handle the heat or stay the fuck outta hells kitchen
i came to cock block like a square, fucking male chicken?
Yeah, its shady slut the rest can suck on a big one
Im as despicable as daffy duck when i'm spittin

Nas was one the most lyrical rappers, when I say was I mean his earliest albums were the shit. Nowadays I don't really know, even Eminem has fallen off a little in my opinion.

I probably have to go with that, both of those guys have some pretty great rhyme structures that can really take you by surprise, however Eminem's Relapse album wasn't too great. Nas can be amazing but often seems a bit lazy, I like Immortal Technique a lot, but I've only really listened to The 3rd World album so I don't think I've heard enough to judge.

I also toss my vote up to Eminem. Though Relapse was...eh, I don't really like his "crazy/Slim Shady" persona songs, though the Underground song was good. I like the other, "non-crazy" stuff like Stan, Mosh, White America, I forget the name but the song that was used on that MW2 trailer, and other such songs, can't recall any more because I'm half asleep and my brain isn't working that well right now.

Even though I am not the biggest fan of him, Fiasco could get my vote.. I love the thing he has going with his three personas. But Kweli, Def, K'naan.. Aaaaaaaand, GZA, and Nas.

Oh, and btw.. Eminem is overrated..

As far as a straight-up story-teller goes I might have to go with Ghostface.
He can be inconsistent but when he's at his best he's tough to beat as far as painting mental pictures goes.
Fishscale's Shakey Dog, and Wu-Tang Forever's Impossible (@2:40) are two great examples of GFK at his best.

This is a pretty Wu centric post but The RZA and The GZA are the tops too.

    agreed.

"protect ya neck, my sword still remains imperial
before i blast the mic, RZA scratch off the serial"

that's easily one of the best lines in all of hip-hop. there's rappers out there with better delivery, but as far as lyricism, GZA's hard to beat. someone else that comes to mind is Kool Keith in his early days, especially Dr. Octagon and his shit he did with Ultramagnetic. basically kicked off the trip-hop movement, all about twisted, labyrinthine lyricism

Best lyrical is definately Aesop Rock (he's also my favorite rapper), but Atmosphere, Sage Francis and MF DOOM/Madvillain are awesome aswell.

This song also has one of my favorite quotes, "Must Not Sleep, Must Warn Others."

I'd have to lean towards none of them.  Shitty structure and a poor sense of grammar pretty much rob poetry of skill.  Any asshole can write something when they disregard limitation and intelligence.

GZA, Nas, and Eminem are all answers I agree with. I'm not sure who's on top these days, as I stopped following rap in 99. Besides the previously mentioned, I always considered Ras Kass to be the best. I wasn't big on the west coast flow, but Ras Kass was damn good.

A ''lyrical rapper'' used as a term still blows my mind lol as oppose to what exactly?
I do know what you mean, jus' sayin, i find it weird, cos surely the split is ''who can acturly rap, an who cant''

Whoever said MF Doom has my respect lol an yeah, Mos Def is dope, as an overall musician not just rappin' i feel.

But i'd have to go with KRS One, in terms of changin hip hop, his longevity, an Return to the boom bap....my word...phenominal mc

Lyrically, Tupac.  But lyrics means shit if it doesn't have the flow and not a lot have both.  A lot of these new rappers especially the southern ones got shit for flow.

All lyrics suck all of the time.  I have yet to hear one single song that has any merit beyond sounding pretty.

That being said, I don't care much for poetry either.

Also, music is my second preferred choice of entertainment (behind video games and ahead of reading).

I'm not sure if I just missed it, but I'm surprised no one has mentioned Aesop Rock or Sage Francis. I far prefer Aesop, but you can really see Sage's slam poetry roots in his music.
