So who is the most lyrical rapper.. Well MC. Because nowadays there's a difference between the two that most people can clearly see, the division of hip-hop and rap. I gotta say that Technique is in my opinion the best in the game right now as far as lyricality and story telling abilities go, that's what an MC (Master of Ceremonies) is. A story teller. But who knows, there are so many people out there now.. What do you think?

The most lyrical rapper?

Ghostface. Probably my favorite rapper even though he uses a lot of crazy Staten Island slang that usually needs explanation.
This is just off the top of my head, not sure how different it would be if I gave it some thought, but Rhymefest and Del are easy contenders.
Eminem is by far the most lyrical rappers. His texts blow my mind. Just listen to this. Don't let all the swearing get you down, listen to the word play.. If you can't catch up, these are the lyrics:
I come around like what goes around
What goes up must come down, anyone who comes up must go down
Might as well go for the gusto now
Better not let up, better not let them breathe
Last shot, give it all you got
Try to turn me down bitch, get fucked with a volume knob
Fuck all you snobs, hoes now i hope all you rot
2 bottles of lubriderm and a box of condoms is that all you brought?
And you want a Ménage à trois you twats?
Fuck that I'd rather turn this club to a ballroom brawl
Get rowdy as Roethlisberger in a bathroom stall
Like a leaf stuck in a vacuum yall
ain't nuttin but a whole lotta suckin going on in rap
Yeah but I'm home, back for the bone, back in the zone
leave him alone you don't wanna go eggin him on
It'll never be my chair that you own
crown so tight that it cuts all circulation
no air to the brain no oxygen other words it's no heir to the throne
When I die so does hip-hop
hitchcock did a shit bitch ass doc got his zip locked in a bag
you fags ain't been able to fade me since kid rock had a hi-top
keep bloggin while I'm mind boggling I zone like I'm in the twilight dog
get off my bone, this is my mic dog and i like hoggin it
flow so wet ima take this beat tabboggoning, i'm water loggin it, i'm soggin it
pull your verse out the beat and stomp on it
suplexing it on cement like im on some straight outta compton shit
take this dick and chomp on it, i'm so bad i could bitch slap a back handed compliment
jackass, eat a donkey dick, the game i just about conquered it
like donkey kong, i'm bonkers bitch i'm the king of this honkey shit
i reign supreme in this honkey shit
no screaming and arguing makes no difference whether a benz or a bentley or a beamers the car you in
you think you ball well i bomb it, i throw up bombs when i vomit
i throw down in the kitchen might hit your mum with my omlette
but you got egg on your face, now watch me drop it atomic
i should be strapped to the chest of a kamikaze bitch
i'm as bat shit as Ozzy its obvious you can tell right off the bat
no pun intended but come any closer ill bite off your head
trying to give me the fingers like giving a spider the web
I'm just gonna spin it and use it to my advantage
i catch a fly in that bitch, you think you fly, you just food
i give as much of a flying fuck as that superman dude
Guess I just do what you cant do, i make you look stupid and bamboozled
confused as usual and you can ripped she can open a can too
you better hope you can handle the heat or stay the fuck outta hells kitchen
i came to cock block like a square, fucking male chicken?
Yeah, its shady slut the rest can suck on a big one
Im as despicable as daffy duck when i'm spittin
Dear god, please explain to me what the difference between "hip-hop and rap " is. I really, really hope you don't say what I think your going to because a) it's wrong and b) it will make me die inside a little bit
Yea, I was gonna say GZA too, 4th Chamber is an amazing song....I usually can't pick a favorite out of the Wu-Tang, but usually default to Ghostface." In my mind it's GZA the Genius.
"
"I probably have to go with that, both of those guys have some pretty great rhyme structures that can really take you by surprise, however Eminem's Relapse album wasn't too great. Nas can be amazing but often seems a bit lazy, I like Immortal Technique a lot, but I've only really listened to The 3rd World album so I don't think I've heard enough to judge. Its still hands down Eminem or Ice Cube. Those two fools are nasty writers.
"
I also toss my vote up to Eminem. Though Relapse was...eh, I don't really like his "crazy/Slim Shady" persona songs, though the Underground song was good. I like the other, "non-crazy" stuff like Stan, Mosh, White America, I forget the name but the song that was used on that MW2 trailer, and other such songs, can't recall any more because I'm half asleep and my brain isn't working that well right now.
I really like MF Doom! His timing is always just behind the beat giving the tracks some real weight
Having me daily total people
You can call me Your Majesty
Keep your battery charged
You know it won't stick, yo
And it's not his fault you kick slow
Should've let your trick 'ho chick hold your sick glow
Plus nobody couldn't do nothin' once he let the brick go
And you know I know that's a bunch of snow
The beat is so butter
Peep the slow cutter
As he utters the calm flow
Don't talk about my moms, yo
Sometimes he rhyme quick, sometimes he rhyme slow
And vice versa
Whip up a slice of nice verse pie
Hit it on the first try
Villain: The Worst Guy
Spot hot tracks like spot a pair of fat asses
Shots of the scotch from out of square shot glasses
And he won't stop 'till he got the masses
An' show 'em what they know now through flows of hot molasses
Do it like a robot to headspin to boogaloo
Took a few minutes to convince the average bug-a-boo
It's ugly, like look at you! It's a damn shame
Just remember All Caps when you spell the man name
And you know it like a poet, like baby doll
I bet she tried to say she gave me her all, she played ball
All bets off! The Villain got the dice rigged
And they say he accosted the man with the sliced wig
Allegedly; the investigation is still ongoing
In this pesky inition he gots the best con flowin'
The pot doubles, now they really got troubles
Madman never go *pop*!, like snot bubbles
Even though I am not the biggest fan of him, Fiasco could get my vote.. I love the thing he has going with his three personas. But Kweli, Def, K'naan.. Aaaaaaaand, GZA, and Nas.
Oh, and btw.. Eminem is overrated..

'Fest is very cool too :D
As far as a straight-up story-teller goes I might have to go with Ghostface.
He can be inconsistent but when he's at his best he's tough to beat as far as painting mental pictures goes.
Fishscale's Shakey Dog, and Wu-Tang Forever's Impossible (@2:40) are two great examples of GFK at his best.
This is a pretty Wu centric post but The RZA and The GZA are the tops too.
agreed." In my mind it's GZA the Genius.
"
"protect ya neck, my sword still remains imperial
before i blast the mic, RZA scratch off the serial"
that's easily one of the best lines in all of hip-hop. there's rappers out there with better delivery, but as far as lyricism, GZA's hard to beat. someone else that comes to mind is Kool Keith in his early days, especially Dr. Octagon and his shit he did with Ultramagnetic. basically kicked off the trip-hop movement, all about twisted, labyrinthine lyricism
"Its still hands down Eminem or Ice Cube. Those two fools are nasty writers. Too bad everyone hangs on Jay Z's balls because he says New York in a song. Fuck New York. Westside till I die.
"
Best lyrical is definately Aesop Rock (he's also my favorite rapper), but Atmosphere, Sage Francis and MF DOOM/Madvillain are awesome aswell.
This song also has one of my favorite quotes, "Must Not Sleep, Must Warn Others."
(Lyrics below)
The harvest appeared less plentiful than last season
I imagine sloppy seed handling evoked the stroke of tardy planting
And the crops we'd have harnessed mid November
Had only brushed the blossom bracket, then soon sacrificed
Lives to icicle jackets when the frost hit
I sunk to find the warmth beneath the mosses
Where the planted tunnel passed after the rains had run their courses
But alas, the portraits of these frostbit corpses tortured in the grass
Offered distort support of one tall glass of nauseous
And I'm asking you, why's this spy supply hiding in strangers
When they know atop the food chains I could spot biters for acres
Now be gracious, these minstrels turned a bully cycle civil
By dissolving the candy coated image down to the pixels
Yelp, bringing the self-styled freedom brigade investors
In their studies connecting one hit wonders with dust collectors
Puts it down, and it's down beneath your sappy sing alongs
So stick it further down, we'll let Dante decide which ring I'm on
Nova, the elders took positions and advanced march
Parts playing a scheme parking the rain in my canteen now I'm like
Point: I guess I could spare a splash for a couple of heads
Counterpoint: During my famine I never got broke your bread
Well equation of intrigue, yes, yes, let me fed sit for a bit
These 'tensils need soaking before I hand out token
"Shut the fuck up" drama like Kabuki with a heart of dirt
Skull fucked cross bones hence my birth, it hurts
Chorus:
Must not sleep must warn others
Trust blocks creep where the dust storm hovers
I milk my habitat for almost everything I want
Sometimes I take it all and still can't feel this pitfall in my gut
And I'm like must not sleep must warn others
Trust blocks creep where the dust storm hovers
I'm trying to walk on top of sunshine
But it's ridiculous at times that's why I tore 'em with this warning
Verse Two:
Wanting the glory of our advance fire ants to water beetles
Free masons adjacent to pacing on pins and needles
Pupil turned pedagogue, benediction to my dream
In a billion bottle rockets off the golden mezzanine
I pluck the petals off a classic blood rose one at a time
Gripping the stem and right invite the thorns to dig up in my lifelines
A metaphor for nighttime, ante up the slight cost of exhaustion
To salute the moon above paradise lost and you're a spectator
Stringent, inch by sacred inch shoveling coal into my earthworm soul
Burrow up through the dirt with bloody digit, lick my knuckles clean
Noting the corporate clusters holding hands round the abode of the damned
Now what's your poison? Starlight and amaze her with a nicotine chaser
Sip it clean, savor the taste, then sit and dream later
The eyelids pivot back upon their hinges twenty miles
Across the glassy eyed window of wonders to pass him by
Now I'm six foot four with a sixth-floor walk-up just to recline
With no free time, the alarm storms at nine
My daytime's on some, yes sir, okay sir, right away sir
Sir do you mind if I breathe sir oh you do? Well excuse me sir fuck you
I breathe slow, I'm running with these fantastic amalgams
Painting casket bound careers to pierce gunning with classic albums
Security's the javelin, catch it; labor
Clocked in at seven six and haven't clocked out ever since
I'd have to lean towards none of them. Shitty structure and a poor sense of grammar pretty much rob poetry of skill. Any asshole can write something when they disregard limitation and intelligence.
A ''lyrical rapper'' used as a term still blows my mind lol as oppose to what exactly?
I do know what you mean, jus' sayin, i find it weird, cos surely the split is ''who can acturly rap, an who cant''
Whoever said MF Doom has my respect lol an yeah, Mos Def is dope, as an overall musician not just rappin' i feel.
But i'd have to go with KRS One, in terms of changin hip hop, his longevity, an Return to the boom bap....my word...phenominal mc
All lyrics suck all of the time. I have yet to hear one single song that has any merit beyond sounding pretty.
That being said, I don't care much for poetry either.
Also, music is my second preferred choice of entertainment (behind video games and ahead of reading).
I gotta say that the most lyrical guys out there now are Immortal Technique, Prince EA (for sure check him out), and I guess cats like Diabolic Cunninlynguists, etc are on there way but nowhere near the level of those guys.. Idk just my opinion
What?? That's wack look into some real MC's go check out Prince EA's track "Bars from Sumer" or Technique's "Dance With The Devil" and tell me that's not some deeply rooted lyrical ability
*Ehem*
I'm not sure if I just missed it, but I'm surprised no one has mentioned Aesop Rock or Sage Francis. I far prefer Aesop, but you can really see Sage's slam poetry roots in his music.
Flash that buttery gold, jittery zeitgeist
Wither by the watering hole, water patrol
What are we, a heart huckabee, art fuckery suddenly?
Not enough young in his lung for the water wings?
Colorfully vulgar poacher at a mulch like
'I'ma pull the pulse out a soldier and bolt.' (Fine)
Sign of the time we elapsed
When a primate climb up the spine and attach
Eye for an eye, by the bog's life swamps and vines
They get a rise out of frogs and flies
So when a dog fights hog-tied prize sorta costs a life
The mouths water on a fork and knife
And the allure isn't right
It's gore on a war-torn beach
Where the cash cows actually beef
Blood turns wine when I leak for police
Like 'That's not a riot, it's a feast, let's eat.'
Chorus (El-P and Aesop Rock)
And I will remember your name and face
On the day you were judged by the funhouse cast
And I will rejoice in your fall from grace
With a cane to the sky like 'None shall pass.'
None shall pass, none shall pass
Verse 2 (Aesop Rock)
Now if he never had a day a snow cone couldn't fix
he wouldn't relate to the rouge vocoder bliss
How he spoke through a no-doz, motor on the fritz
'Cause he wouldn't play roll over, fetch, like a bitch
And express no regrets though he isn't worth the homeowners piss
To the jokers who pose by the glitz (Fine)
Sign of the swine and the swarm
When a king is a whore who comply and conform
Miles outside of the eye of the storm
With a siphon to lure and a prize and award
While avoiding the vile and bizarre that is violence and war
True blue triumph is more
Like wait, let it snake up outta the centerfold
Let it break the walls of Jericho. ready? go.
Sat where the old cardboard city folks
Swap tails with heads like every other penny throw
Chorus
Verse 3 (Aesop Rock)
Okay, woke to a grocery list
Goes like this: duty and death
Anyone object, come stand in the way
You can be my little Snake River Canyon today
And I ran with a chain of commands
And a jetpack strap where the backstab lands if it can. (Fine)
Sign of the vibe in the crowd
When I cut a belly open to find what climb out
What a bit of gusto he muster up
Make a dark horse rush like enough's enough
It must'a struck a nerve so they huff and puff
Till all the king's men fluster and clusterfuck
And it's a beautiful thing
To my people who keep an impressive wing span
Even when the cubicle shrink
You gotta pull up the intruder by the root of the weed
NY chew through the machine
Chorus
Ma, Ma--look what i did, Ma. Look what i did to my hands, I broke 'em.
You gave me the stone, gave me the chisel, didn't say how to hold 'em.
Didn't say to give away every piece of the puzzle 'til i was left with nothin'.
But i took it upon myself to crush it up and distribute the dust.
Get in the bus. Hop in the van. Jump in the water. Crawl to the land.
Build another castle out of sand. Break it down and then get into the saddle again.
I'm going city to city - i'm already lost. Tell the boss who is new in town.
I'll ride this horse 'til it it bucks me off and i'm forced to shoot it down.
I'll take him out for some gasoline. Trade this cow for some magic beans.
Gonna make mom proud of the deals that I made, 'cause I'm just a modern day Johnny Appleseed
But i'm glad that I never passed the genes, and I never put down the axe.
Piano man got a checkered dance floor to grace and a painful look on his face.
'Cause the crowd is packed and the louder they clap
the less he is able to make the connection between what he sees
when he hears certain notes and the hurt that is shown in his facial expression. Ahhhhhh.
I don't need your "go ahead" to go ahead. No, I know no one said it was gonna be easy,
but sweet jesus who wants to sleep with me?
Way too many moves to learn. Not enough people to put 'em on.
Look it, mom! No hands. I built this suit of armor with wooden arms.
The force of my love was strong. The sea lion lay down long. Song in the air. Why should singer care? When singer can be among song.
Oh God I think I'm dead
I can't see outside my head
Brains and bloods and cryptic gang men
Czars and warlords breaking bread
Thoughts are thought
What's said is said
I thought that 'fore you said it
I didn't mean to think out loud
My tongue slipped but who let it?
Let it be, let me be, let me go, nah let me out
My manhood nods and whispers when my father screams and shouts
Dear dad I'm sad you're dead
A new man standing in the pulpit
He bows before a wooden cross and forces praise the culprit
I'm a tenor in the choir but I sing a different song
Of how the wheres and whys of now all prove I don't belong
But I'm staying I've planted seeds and plan to watch them grow
I've watered all my wishes dreams fulfilled more seeds to sow
And I promise to learn to love the way I've learned to fear
To unknot all the inhibitions tangled in my hair
To let my ego mound in piles around the barber chair
And make a graceful exit from my vexed troubled years
I've decided I've been invited to my own resort
Where knights can leave their armor neatly piled by the door
And every woman, child, and man will gather by the shore
and study how sea lions swim in cursive
The force of my love was strong. The sea lion lay down long. Song in the air. Why should singer care? When singer can be among song.
Sage Francis is really good.. But Aesop really doesn't rhyme about anything half the time.. It's just a bunch of mumbo jumbo
