The story takes place in the year 2960.
Government
The galaxy’s government is mostly democratic and federal-like. It is divided into 3 parts:
Galactic Government: The Council has been around for only 700 years, and has governed the galaxy for the majority of that time. It was founded by the Alitan and was set up to help maintain control of the galaxy. Council Hall is located in the city of on the planet Bazmine. The Council itself consists of 10 members, each of whom is from a different race. They meet at a specified time every other week to discuss the current issues of the galaxy. They also take the time to hear from citizens about complaints and more. The Council established the Declaration of Galactic Laws after only a year of existence. The document lists the laws that they create that apply to every single living thing within the galaxy. So far, the amount of laws created exceeds 1,500. Laws are constantly being added, changed, and removed.
System Government: The galaxy is divided into clusters, which are divided into systems of planets. Each system has its own government that has control over the planets within it. They create more specific laws that only apply to that system.
Planetary Government: Planets that are habitable with large cities have their own government. This level creates laws that only apply to that planet.
Both the Galactic level of government and the System level of government can raise and maintain a military. However, only the Galactic Government can deploy fleets to any system they wish.
Organizations (both criminal and non criminal)
Space Pirates (Criminal): A large criminal group of disgruntled citizens that formed at the end of the Cyborg Encounter War. They were exiled from their home planets due to paranoia from the governments and the Council (the citizens were thought to be involved with the Cyborgs). Eventually, the exiled citizens stole 5 ships from the military on the planet Xediliag and flew away. For 2 years they only accepted those that were exiled into their ranks, but the organization has grown to be so large that anyone who wants to lead a criminal lifestyle can join. The estimated population of the organization is about 550,000.
The space pirates roam the galaxy, stealing ships and sabotaging fleets. Whenever they take over a ship, they will either kill everyone on board or turn them into slaves. They salvage everything on the ship. Anything that they feel isn’t of use is put into a Heavy Compressor and is reduced to junk matter, which is ejected into space and is the primary cause of space pollution.
Galactic Mining & Excavation (Non-Criminal): The GMEU is the largest mining organization in the galaxy. There are over 1,500,000 miners in the . They travel from planet to planet searching for metals and other materials that could prove useful to society, and sometimes dig up old ruins from the past
Wars
Cyborg Encounter War: Lasted from 2350-2352. The war began when Human miners on the planet Garklan encountered an army of cybernetic organisms (also known as cyborgs). The miners were wiped out within minutes.
For weeks nobody knew what had happened until a probe dispatched to the site revealed a large military base hidden in the cliffs. According to Galactic Law #87, no military headquarters may be established without the Consent of the government that has sovereignty over the system the planet is located in. The Council checked in with the government in control of the system (known as the Monglian System) and no record was found of the base. The government sent a fleet of soldiers in to investigate, and they were immediately engaged by the cyborgs. The troops suffered causalities from laser strikes and severe burns due to the climate of the planet and their lack of protection. After an hour, the team, consisting of 30 men and women, was obliterated.
The Monglian System’s government had no choice but to turn to the Council for assistance. At first, the Council was hesitant to act due to the fact that they had never dealt with cyborgs before, and were convinced that they weren’t a threat. It was after a devastating attack on the colony of Haji (located on the planet Ghan) that the Council was forced to act. They sent a larger fleet than the last. This fleet, consisting of 2 frigates, 130 soldiers, 3 battle tanks, and 5 rovers, landed on Garklan and proceeded to head towards the cyborgs base. The 2 frigates keeping watch in the sky were engaged by hostile forces, and quickly returned fire. At the same time, the ground troops were fired upon from the base. The sky was turned a violent red as explosions rocked the ground and lasers zoomed by. One frigate was hit hard and was forced to retreat. The remaining ship managed to fend off the aerial attack and proceeded to assist the ground troops. After 3 hours of intense fighting, the soldiers managed to overrun the cyborgs’ military base and destroyed it from within.
The peace was violently interrupted 1 week later when a mysterious ship fired upon yet another colony. This time, the Council was ready. A counterattack defeated the ship, and the remains of the vessel were taken in by forensics for study. They found a conspicuous marking on the ship, a symbol of sort, that they recognized. The symbol had been spotted on the armor being worn by the cyborgs and on their base, but the occupants of the ship were most definitely not cyborg. A large scale investigation was launched, and it was concluded after 2 months of searching that the cyborg army was created by TechFrontier, a corporation specializing in technology and cybernetics. The company had been illegally experimenting with cybernetic organisms and ended up created an entire military of cyborgs. After the intelligent beings demonstrated how useful they could be in a battle, the corporation began mass-producing them. Eventually, TechFrontier went mad with power and established the base on Garklan. The reason for the attack on the colony was that TechFrontier was upset at the cyborg’s defeat and wanted revenge on the killers.
The Council realized that this was now a major threat to not only the Monglian System but to the entire galaxy. If TechFrontier left the system and eventually the cluster, they could disappear in open space and would be able to sneak onto a different planet and spread the cyborgs out over a larger area. The Council ordered large EMP bombs to be dropped on both Garklan and the TechFrontier headquarters where the cyborgs seemed to be concentrated the most. The bombs were dropped, and the results were catastrophic for TechFrontier. The blast on Garklan disabled every single cyborg within 5,000 miles, and the blast on TechFrontier set off a large chain reaction of explosions that leveled the entire area. However, the victory was short lived. More bases were quickly discovered on neighboring planets. The Council ordered more EMP bombs, but resources were much too scarce.
In the year 2352, TechFrontier launched a large assault on the location of their old cyborg base on Garklan after a full year of silence. The Monglian System’s government set up a base with the permission of the Council on the old spot in order to prevent further attacks. They were caught off guard, and TechFrontier deployed hundreds and hundreds of cyborgs at the site. The cyborgs overran the establishment and detonated a large bomb within it. They had taken back their own ground.
A few weeks later, another attack by TechFrontier was reported on the planet Jilei, followed by more attacks on several other planets. However, the cyborgs were constantly suffering casualties despite their victories, and eventually they were whittled down to a meager 100 soldiers. The remaining cyborgs were either killed off or fell apart due to age.
Civilizations all around the galaxy celebrated the defeat of the cyborgs and TechFrontier. The corporation was forced to disband, and Galactic Law #737 was established. The law bans the experimentation with cybernetic organisms and anyone caught doing so can be punished with death.

Only The Insane Would Avoid This Game
(X360)
Nobody really expects a game based around a comic book character to be very good. Multiple games in the past have tried to pull off this feat, but none have come anywhere close to Batman: Arkham Asylum. This game utterly surprised me. After playing the demo, I was hooked. Everything ...

It's Left 4 Dead, Not Much Else (Crash Course review)

So Crash Course basically took me by surprise. I learned about it's release date the day before it came out. By chance I still had 640 Microsoft Points left, so I picked it up the next day. Crash Course really does nothing different, and is simply more Left 4 Dead, ...

Multiplayer Fans Need To Avoid This One (Map Pack 3 Review)
(X360)
I was very excited about Map Pack 3, but unfortunately, the new multiplayer maps are so weak that it's not worth the 800 points unless you're a Nazi Zombies fan. The new maps are way to large and confusing. Treyarch said the fans wanted big maps. They said the fans ...

Conceptually neat, but overall falls flat on its face
(X360)
In most first person games out there, you carry a gun, and with that gun, you shoot dudes up and complete objectives. Swedish developer EA Digital Illusions CE (DICE) decided to take that formula and throw it right out the window. Mirror's Edge is a first person game, but the ...
