An unfortunate sequel that stumbles far too much over its attempts to do more. 0

There’s always a dangerous line to travel when a sequel is made, especially when the previous installments are successful or have a healthy modicum of acceptance from consumers. Straying too far from the original formula can make the sequel feel removed and disjointed from what made the previous game good, and sticking too close to the original can come off as lazy or apathetic. Dennaton certainly did not have an easy job on their hands making a sequel to Hotline Miami, and while the gamep...

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number 1

When Hotline Miami came out near the end of 2012, it took the gaming community by storm. What came together as a whole was a completely unique experience. It's fast paced game play, unbelievably cool soundtrack and grimy 80s inspired art direction was something solely original and created an incredibly satisfying game. I remember playing it now for the first time being completely floored by it. A common thing you heard about Hotline Miami was “it was a game made for me”. The reverenc...

It was really great to see that they made this sequel to Drive. When watching I noticed paralells between the incoherence of the first drive and this new drive especially in the absurd dialogue. I thought that Nicolas Refn missed a huge opportunity to actually put some of the gunmen in his shots because, as an audience member, I found it difficult to anticipate the location of them and empathize with Ryan Gosling appropriately. That's my sole complaint because Drive 2 or whatever it's called ...

The number is so wrong, I don't want it to be right 0

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is a bizarre game to say the least. Being heralded by it’s creators as “The last game in the saga” it has a lot to live up to after the first was such a loved game critically and commercially. The first thing that you will notice as soon as you play is that graphics and gameplay wise the game seems near identical to its predecessor, if not exactly the same. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, it’s more of a “if it ain’t broke...

The nature of violence in a nostalgia-fueled package. 0

Aftertaste.Hotline Miami games are the kind that you can (and probably should) like and hate at the same time. Love everything about the game, and hate about what it is. It may sound confusing at first, but so are the emotions you feel before the shock value wears off, as the pixelated gore and violence become just meaningless. The gameplay is pretty great, the aesthetic is amazing, but the subject matter of the game is such a contrast to its qualities that it itself becomes one of the best thin...

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number Review 0

Hotline Miami was an incredible game. A hypnotic blur of colourful visuals, amazing music and perfectly executed trial-and-error action-meets-puzzle gameplay that stayed fun for hours on end. Unfortunately for its sequel, however, Hotline Miami 2 has the daunting task of following up a universally loved and critically-acclaimed game that was pretty damn close to flawless. Hotline Miami 2 takes to this challenge with extreme confidence, though, and opts to go for a far more ambitious title that, ...
