Hyper Wars: The Mega Firestorm is a 2006 Shoot'em up created by 9_6. Designed visually in the two tone style of the Game Boy. The game looks and plays similar to older shmups, like 1942. It featured power-ups, and different vehicles available to the player.

The game first appeared on a gamemaker forum where updates were released. The game was soon noticed and picked up by several blogs and game websites.

In anticipation for the final update, 9_6 released the 0.1b version of the game, as a teaser. The game was never finished, and abandoned a year later.

Originally made using Gamemaker version 6.1, Hyper Wars is unplayable on Windows machines from Vista onwards. It is possible to update the game using community patching tools, allowing it to run on newer machines.

Shield, Speed, Power, and three weapon types constitute the various power-ups. Collecting "power" upgrades the ship visually. The weapon types are Spread, Laser and Ball.

The game has cutscenes between each level with dialogue, and characters for the bosses. As the game progresses, the player accrues credits, which can be spent in a secret menu, to unlock secrets.
