Can you a) use prepaid plans with them, b) are there any compatible $50/unlimited everything plans, and c) can an off contract iPhone take advantage of hspa+ speeds?

I may be going out on a limb here, but GameStop would probably be able to answer those questions if you called them.

GameStop only sells AT&T iPhones. So in theory, yes you can use it with a Pre-Paid plan. However you'd need to "unlock" the phone so it works with other carriers and you would have to make sure your pre-paid carrier is on the same GSM plan. Again you'd need to ensure that your pre-paid service allows it as well. It's honestly not worth the hassle, If you can't afford to go on contract or don't like the idea of it then don't. Get a Galaxy S2 or S3 or another Android phone. iPhones are nice and all, but it's been a few years since they were the best on the market.
