Overview
Japanese Mah-jongg (known in Japan as Handy Mahjong) is a riichi mahjong game developed and digitally published by ITL for the Nintendo Switch on March 8, 2018 (in Japan) and May 3, 2018 (overseas).
The sequel to the studio's earlier Japanese-exclusive DSi game Handy Mahjong, Japanese Mah-jongg is a simple digital adaptation of four-player riichi mahjong. While the game is normally playable only in single-player (with one player against 3 AI opponents), it is unique for including a mode where two players can play on different ends of the same handheld (with players encouraged to construct a makeshift barrier to put around the center of the handheld).
It is notable for being the only game of its kind on the system to receive a translated release outside of Japan (not including the compilation Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics and the port of the two-player variant Taisen Hot Gimmick). Unlike most translated versions of the riichi variant, the game uses English terminology associated with other variants, such as using "Chow", "Pong", and "Kong" instead of "Chi", "Pon", and "Kan".
