Jet Set Radio

Jet Set Radio is an unconventional platforming roller-skating series that involves the player in creating graffiti on key locations throughout a futuristic and lavishly designed Tokyo. It is also the first video game to feature cel-shaded graphics.

Concepts

2.5D

Games which feature 3D polygonal graphics, but typically restrict gameplay and camera control to a 2D plane. Alternatively, it can also refer to earlier games that attempted to simulate three-dimensional graphics without the use of 3D polygons.
Achievements

Achievements are extra challenges added into video games that sometimes carry a point value or unlock bonus material, and are sometimes solely for bragging rights.
Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence, or AI, commonly refers to the programmed behaviors of NPCs in a game, whether it's the fact that a soldier takes cover behind a wall in Gears of War, or that townspeople cheer upon your arrival to their village in Fable.

A boss fight is a culminating challenge that pits the player against one or more enemies representing a greater threat and/or difficulty than those previously faced. These scenarios typically feature unique antagonists.
Branching Story Line

Games that let you choose you path you take through through the story-line.
Cel-Shading

A style of animation that gives games a more hand drawn look.
Character Says The Name of The Game

Sometimes the writers will deliberately slip the title of the game into dialogue to show off how witty they are.
Comic Book Onomatopoeia

Written words that are used to describe sounds sometimes used in comic book inspired games like XIII.
Credits Menu Option

Why wait until you've beaten the game to find out who made it? These games let you see the credits without ever having to play the game.
Customization

Customization in games that allow users to change various parts of their equipment or moves to fit their gaming style.
Difficulty Level

Sometimes you want a challenge, sometimes you wanna coast.
Digital Distribution

Digital Distribution is the concept of purchasing digital media via the internet and having it sent to the user directly via the internet. No physical representation of this content is given but the content resides on the users hard drive and is legally owned by them.
DJ

A DJ (Disc Jockey or deejay) is a person who selects and plays recorded music for an audience. Turntables, CD players, mixers, computer software, and effects units are used to create what is known as a mix.
Dolby Digital

Dolby Digital is an audio compression technology codec first used in movie theaters. It's now commonly used in many modern day audio/video media formats, including video games.

Game Developers Choice Awards

The Game Developers Choice Awards is an annual awards ceremony recognising the work of videogame developers held at the Game Developers Conference. Running since 2001, it takes place in the Moscone Center in San Francisco, the same location as GDC.

Graffiti

Depending on your perspective it can be art or vandalism. It is the practice of painting, etching, stickering, pasting, or in any way marking public or private property with lettering or images for a variety of different ends.

Grind

Grinding is the ability to slide along the edge of an object, usually a rail of some kind, with the trucks of a skateboard, the sole of a rollerblade, or the pegs of a BMX bike, in addition to grind boots or simply the character's feet.
Health

Health is a value that gauges how much damage players can take in a game before they die or pass out. Also known as life in some games. Health is usually represented by a bar or a percentage instead of an exact amount. Found in most non sport games
High Score

In many games there is a ranking system, the players with the highest point value are listed in a "high score" table.
Hip-Hop

Hip-Hop is a type of urban culture that has been featured in many videogames to varying extents, in movies, and in all around pop culture. Hip-Hop includes Rap music/Emceeing, graffiti art, DJ'ing, and breakdancing.
