Medusa is often portrayed in games as a creature that is a cross between a woman and a snake. The lower body is often a snake tail, and the hair is usually a mass of snakes. Other than this, the head and torso are that of a woman.
The Ferryman will "take you to meet your destiny!" in the Castlevania Franchise. He's the boatman found in 4 different Castlevania games to date and is based on the Mythological Character Charon, the Ferryman of the River Styx.
Cerberus is a creature from Greek and Roman myth commonly depicted as a three-headed dog. It guards the gates of the underworld for the god Hades, preventing those who cross the River Styx from ever escaping.
Officially he is "Frankenstein's monster", as the book was named after his creator, Victor Frankenstein, not the monster made of reanimated pieces of dead bodies. Nonetheless, the name stuck with the populace, and "Frankenstein" has been lumbering through horror movies and games alike for decades.
The right-hand man of Count Dracula, Death is easily recognized by his giant scythe and ominous cloak. Not the same Death who appears in other games.
The straw filled inhabitant who wished he had a brain. Later in the books, he was made a ruler of OZ. Coincidence? I think not.
The "heartless" character from L. Frank Baum's Oz who used to be human, but he had an axe that cut off all the parts of his body one piece at a time and he had to replace them with a tin replica. Soon he was completely made of tin!
A high-ranking demon and one of Lucifer's top Generals. He was the mastermind behind the demon invasion on Purgatory.
