Layer is a new character created for Mega Man X8. Serving as one of three Maverick Hunter Operators, she specializes in combat analysis and troop deployment, often giving the player hints on how to defeat boss characters. She is secretly in love with Zero, but is too bashful to confess, while Zero seems oblivious to her feelings.
If a player beats the game using Zero more times over all than the other two characters ( X and Axl), Layer becomes a playable character during the next play-through. She plays identically to Zero, though her light saber is has slightly more range.
