Li Long

Story

With the Ming Dynasty vulnerable to pirates from Southern Japan, Li Long was given two directives: assassinate the leader of the pirates and find the legendary sword Soul Edge.

But, Li Long didn't care much for the rumors of the legendary sword. He decided that in addition to the leader of the pirates, he would take on the feudal lords of Japan as well.

This didn't go as planned. The overconfident Li Long found himself gravely injured, but was rescued by the daughter of an innkeeper named Chie. And while he was recovering, Li Long and Chie fell in love.

One day, while Li Long was absent, a fight broke out at the inn and Chie was thought to be killed. Her father told Li Long that it was a wandering swordsman who started the fight and witnesses claimed that it may have been Heishiro Mitsurugi.

Upon learning that Mitsurugi was searching for Soul Edge, he vowed to obtain the swords first. Mitsurugi would then have to seek him out. And if it was the case that Mitsurugi was not the culprit, he would hunt down every Japanese swordsman until he got his revenge.

Soul Edge Ending

Li Long fell to the ground with the color of blood on his hands. From the rage of battle he knew not if this blood was his or his opponents. Though this be certain, his opponent lay fallen in front of him with SoulEdge in hand. Exhausted he slowly reached for SoulEdge, but his hands gathered only thin air. Weak from the blood of battle in his eyes Li Long spoke the name of his dearest love. "Chi...e, Chie!" Slow were Chie's eyes to open. Only a miracle from the heavens gave her a chance to survive a fatal wound to the back. Good fortune was on their side as a traveling monk saved Hachibei & Chie. One long month had passed since Li Long left in search of Chie. So long was it that she knew he failed. His journey could only have ended in death. Her eyes were filled with tears. One half year later, Chie learned she would bear the child of Li Long. Saddened by her loneliness she cried, "Oh dearest, please watch over our child".
