A cancelled sandbox action game about a bounty hunter in the crime-ridden United States of 2016.

Loose Cannon was a sandbox action game being developed by Digital Anvil from 1997/98 until their purchase by Microsoft in 2001. Gameplay was a mix of driving and on-foot action in a similar method as Grand Theft Auto 3 (although the cancellation occurred before GTA3 was released). Set in 2016, the player's character was one of many mercenaries hired by the police to combat a rising level of crime after a war over oil causes global economic crises and the United States government collapses. The game was to take place across several 'accurately detailed' cities across the USA, feature fifteen (types of) vehicles and more than a dozen weapons, and an eight-player competitive multiplayer mode.

The game was loosely inspired by the 1985 Atari game Autoduel.
