Fun...for a while
I've finally had a chance to play this game. And as it is clear, the game has some faults. It is an amazing game, but it only works in short doses. Play more than an hour at a time and you will get tired of it. Stick to one area at a time and you'll have a blast.
Madworld is another of the "dystopian bloodsport game" series, popularized by Smash TV (and performed excellently, but without great sales, by The Club). You are Jack and you are on Deathwatch, seeking to replace the people ranked higher than you on the list. The levels are actually fairly large. You have commentators commenting on what you're doing.
The game is gory. It is ridiculously gory. And it's one of the most brilliantly artistic games out there. The visual style very closely apes a black-and-white graphic novel, and it is one of the most impressive parts of the game. The enemies won't wow you with their impressive A.I, serving mainly as cannon fodder to be killed in exceptionally violent manners. You have tons of leeway in how you will dispatch your enemies. You can throw them against spikes, impale them on spikes, shove road signs down their throats, etc. There really is almost nothing you cannot use to slaughter your faceless drones.
But, the game has problems. It IS the same thing, over-and-over. The camera is also a huge headache, a common issue for the Wii. If you have a 3D world, then the Wii is infamously poor in terms of camera (Mario Galaxy is the notable exception, as always). The announcers are fucking irritating. Greg Proops doesn't do a lot for me as a comic and does even LESS for me as a commentator in a game. And while the play is a lot of fun, it does get repetitive. Repetitive as all royal hell.
It's a shame it sold poorly as it was one of the most unique titles the Wii has. It is a game that deserves an audience, but I definitely see why some people wouldn't get into it. Bloodsport games are infamously weak in terms of sales and this hardly changed that trend. But I can comfortably highly recommend it --- just don't play it in front of the kids.
