    Experiences from the beta

    I don't plan on buying this game after playing the beta.  From viewing the videos on the site from the full release, I don't see that a whole lot has changed from the beta.  I think this is a solid multiplayer shooter, but I don't see a whole lot to recommend this game over titles like Battlefield and Modern Warfare 2.

    A major problem I had with the game was that the mechanics of the game were poorly explained.  You choose a faction that you stay in until you delete the character.  There are different weapons and map setups for each faction and you have to go on the web to get any information about the specific benefits of each.  Also, I found several of the skill upgrades completely worthless (like pistol reload speed) and some of them essential (like the sniper rifle bipod).  Even the various airstrikes and mortar barrages need trial and error to figure out.

    Also, even though I liked the leadership system and what it was trying to do, getting on a team with a crummy leader really kills your enjoyment.  Not only are you crippled in your effectiveness, but you miss out on a lot of exp since proper objectives are not set.

    This is not a bad game, but i feel like the concept could be executed a little better.

    No offense, but you really can't make a well informed review if you're just judging it off the beta and not the final product.

    I understand that, so I put it in the heading for my review.  But from watching the videos posted on the site recently, it doesn't seem like any of the problems I had with the game have been improved upon.  They fixed a lot of bugs, and that's great, the game seems solid now, but the gameplay issues remain.

    Maybe you can go work at any of the other non-professional review sites that used the beta for their review.  They have employed changes from the beta.  If you can't find reason why people should play this over "MW2 or Battlefield", then you didn't play the game, or, couldn't grasp that this is a teamwork game.  This game is not an elementary training wheels shooter that puts your reticle over people itself like MW2.  If you couldn't find the wealth of depth and long value this game provides, I suggest you stick to the skill less shooters out there like the ones you mentioned.  This is a totally different ground breaking game.

    BTW- you can't hold it against the game if the people you play with are bad.  That's not the game's fault, that's the player themselves.  You can say the same thing for every-other multi-player game out there, not just shooter, but all of them.

    @Windswilling:
    I don't see how this is a groundbreaking game.  It takes ideas from other games and puts them together fairly well, but it has some issues as well.   You could tell me some more about the details of what in the gameplay that I talked about in my review has changed since the beta, I would be very interested, since I didn't see it in the videos online.

    I agree that bad teammates are a problem in all team-based games, but the problem seemed especially bad in this game for some reason.

    Give it a week or two and the situation should improve.

      Zipper catches the PC feel on the console. 0

      At it's most superficial level MAG appears to be little more than what it's rather odious moniker states a 'Massive Action Game' however, after spending some time with MAG one begins to realize it's true nature. While the game doesn't do anything we haven't seen before in gaming, it does do something we haven't seen in console gaming- the true team based FPS.  For lack of a better term the typical FPS market on a console is immature; from team killing, to questioning others sexuality the console...

      The best PC shooter on a console in some time 0

      MAG is an interesting game to try to review as the way that you play games and what you're looking for in a shooter are going to affect your enjoyment, or lack therof, of MAG. The game starts you out with picking a PMC (Private Military Corporation) from 3 choices: SVER, Raven, and Valor. SVER would be essentially the Russian faction with AK-47 type weapons that are a bit more rustic. Raven is a European PMC with great weapons, and Valor is the North and South American contingent that is probabl...
